Annie’s Wagon – Cornwall

  • Wagon for 2

An original 40s wagon, full of mahogany charm, sitting in rolling pastures just a few miles from the coast...

The charm of staying at Annie’s Wagon is made up of a few lovely things. Partly its the location, just a few miles from the coast and all the great surfing, walking and beach loafing that offers. It’s also the way that the 40s showman’s wagon has had its rich wood panelling and original fittings complemented with a few modern comforts. Finally, its the farm itself with its rolling pastures and farmyard housing a menagerie of ruby red Devon cows, chickens and ducks.
You’ll arrive at Annie’s Wagon to find fresh flowers from the garden, some eggs from the farmyard hens and a basket of logs for the campfire. If you haven’t stocked up then a (rather steep!) 2 mile walk among winding lanes will take you to Whitestone stores where you can pick up some basics. Cooking facilities are all in the wagon and the loo is in a hut just beside it. Both, as well as the whole paddock, are for the exclusive use of guests of the wagon.
The farm and the surrounding area with its diversity of meadows, woodland and beaches, make the perfect place for whatever kind of break you have in mind, from strenuous surfing to topping up on sunshine.

Meet your hosts

Bakesdown Farm is a family affair. Anna and Paul and their two kids (George and Alf) team up with Anna's parent Mark and Audrey to bring the whole thing together. Everyone has their specialities, whether it be in the log, egg or flower gathering departments and the team effort is visible in the love that has gone into making Annie's Wagon the place it is.

It was Mark who planted the orchard and several new areas of woodland. The 24 acres of pastures comprises 10 small old-fashioned Cornish fields, with thick tree covered hedgerows and as a result the farm is full of beautiful wild flowers and bird and animal life.

Anna moved there five years ago, drawn by the close proximity to the sea and the beautiful lush green of that pocket of the countryside. She discovered her father's passion for wagons, clearly shown by the motley collection he has owned over the years, the Gypsy wagon that is living out its retirement in the shed and, of course, Annie's Wagon itself.

Having spent her holidays searching for new, unspoilt parts of the coast and countryside, Anna decided to create her perfect holiday at home instead! A beautiful, unspoilt wagon in a quiet, private rural location would be exactly that, and she hopes that it will be for others too.

Wildlife & the environment

As mentioned above the land has been carefully managed to be as wildlife friendly as possible. You can regularly spot deer, foxes, hedgehogs, barn owls, buzzards, the odd kestrel and much more. Guests are invited to walk the fields and woodland whenever they like.

The wagon has its own wind turbine that powers the lights and 12v socket.
