The Hobbit House is a work of art and beauty. Marvel at the stained glass designs, stargaze through the skylight...

Truly a work of art, the circular cob and cordwood roundhouse is an incredible structure for up to five people, set in a traditional West Country orchard where life drifts by at a peaceful pace. The interior is luxurious and superbly detailed. Glass diamonds made from gin bottles catch the light, sheepskins are from Plan-it Earth’s own sheep, and all other materials are wholly natural. For night time, there’s a wood-burning stove and the roof is made for stargazing. Outside, the living turf roof insulates (and grows forget-me-nots). The orchard is an idyllic spot for the roundhouse: apples, pears and currants flourish here, and hedges run alongside, producing hazel and walnuts, wild berries and elderflower, food for birds and foraging humans. You even have your own garden with firepit within the orchard, and a composting loo and wood-fired shower.

Plan-it Earth creates an environment where the outdoors can bring joy into people's lives: gazing up at the stars, listening to birdsong, building a campfire or foraging for wild food and herbal remedies... Plan-it Earth is all about feeling a connection to nature, and gaining new experiences and skills to take away with you. Rural skill workshops are on offer: bushcraft, bow making, and wild food foraging to name a few. Or just enjoy the surrounding footpaths and ancient sites, or the golden sandy beaches just minutes away.

As guests in the roundhouse you will be making a contribution to the local economy, helping to look after the environment, and picking up a new perspective on life to take home. We’re sure you’ll be back...

Our guests say...

very relaxing comfortable warm place to stay. Well equipped kitchen with everything we needed. really enjoyable weekend

We had a wonderful stay in this beautiful, cozy Hobbit House. It was easy to find, clean & comfortable. The site was lovely with a fantastic ethos, it was so nice to get away from it all. We even found the compost toilets & wood fired shower added to our experience. Thank you for creating this 'little Eden'

Briefly! Was dreading an English holiday but was just brilliant. All together in one room was what we needed to gel again as a family unit but without the exhausting hassle of camping. Felt like a safe little adventure. English weather OK if you've got a stove and a little hobbit house to relax in.

Staying in the Hobbit House was amazing - it was the highlight of our trip and we wish we could have stayed there longer - it really is unique.

Thoroughly enjoyed! Hobbit house has to be seen to be believed, the structure is amazing. We all loved our stay.

What a wonderful place! A magical and inspirational location.

"We had a lovely time, the venue was better in real life than we had expected, Hobbit House is beautiful, lovely surroundings and the hospitality we received was excellent. It was clean, everything we required was provided and there was plenty of info about things to do. We appreciated the home grown flowers on the table and tour of the site and the other house when we first arrived.  We liked the information provided about how the house was built and the development of the project."

"We had the most wonderful time and found The Hobbit House completely enchanting. The orchard and planting enhanced the experience. Although we expected the compost loo and wood fire showers, we were relieved to have an electric kettle and lighting. Kelly was the perfect host and we appreciated hearing about the lovely local walk which again added to our enjoyment.  We had to pull the bed out into the middle of the room to enjoy the sky dome which is wonderful. The wooden canopy obscures the view which is a shame but maybe it is there for an important purpose?"

"Absolutely loved our stay!! Beautiful place, unique accommodation, beautiful surroundings, lots to see and do, very relaxing and inspiring. Hobbit House was wonderful, and the Plan-it Earth site beautiful. Owners helpful but unobtrusive. Compost loo took a bit of getting used to!"

"Our stay was amazing, we really enjoyed the place, we didn't mind having to build fires or wash up outside."

"We had a really fantastic time; it has proved to be one of our most memorable holidays.  I loved the sense of being surrounded by nature (indeed, nature was coming in.  We had a regular robin hopping in who seemed put out that we were in his territory).  Inside it was toasty warm at night (it was still pretty cool when we were staying, down in the low numbers at night) with the wood burner, and the children slept like logs (they were right near the logs, maybe that's why) on their futons.  For them it was like wild living; after our Fire and Foraging course with Greg they were off making bows & arrows, attempting (and failing) to trap rabbits, and eating wall pennywort and gorse flowers, trusty stick in hand the entire time.  The sustainable approach on the site is right up my street - we had a compost loo (they are amazingly clean and hygienic) and had to stoke up a fire to heat water for the shower, which my husband really quite enjoyed doing after going for a run every morning.    That part of Britain is lovely - there are loads of great beaches nearby, some fascinating history to the place (tin-mines, the Cable museum, ancient archaeology) plus St Ives, Penzance and Lands End nearby and loads of tourist attractions.  We loved our little Hobbit House and were really quite sad to leave it, we felt so at home and relaxed there."

"[We enjoyed] the peace and quiet, the wonderful location, inspirational and helpful owners, a snug and cosy home so far removed from our own house, and the productive surroundings."
