The Lodge sits alone in a clearing by a wide sweep of woodland on the banks of the River Eamont on the edge of the Lake District. While the simple log cabin fits perfectly with this isolated location and the feel inside is simple and homely, the interior is not without stylish, modern touches. From the upstairs master bedroom, with views that make the most of The Lodge's spot, the wrought-iron spiral staircase drops into the middle of the well-equipped open-plan kitchen and lounge. There are comfy armchairs facing the wood-burner, a double sofa bed and sliding doors which open onto the veranda to let in cool summer breezes and, occasionally, the sound of deer coming down to the river to drink. The land of the Edenhall estate offers plenty of scope for hiking and cycling in its woodlands as well as private stretches of the river which are fantastic for salmon fishing. There is also plenty to do at The Lodge itself. You can arrange a chef to come out and cook, a full hamper to be waiting for you or a masseuse to come and work out the day’s hiking knots. The nearby Lake District, with a range of outdoor activities, also demands hearty exploration or, at the very least, idle contemplation.
