The Lovestruck at Pennard House – Somerset

  • Truck for 4

1 double bed above cabin and one fold-out double bed.

The Lovestruck, a converted horse truck, continues its tour of Britain and visits Pennard House...

The Lovestruck, a converted horse truck on a camping tour of the nation, has settled in another fine location. The Dearden family have been at Pennard House for over 200 years. Most of the land is covered with sprawling orchards that go to provide cider apples for many well-known brands.

The Lovestruck is located in a sheltered part of the beautiful Victorian walled gardens at Pennard House, in a spot with south-facing views just above one of the traditional apple orchards. From here you can explore the woods and fields around or just relax among the apple blossom and enjoy the views over the village. Guests can enjoy a visit to the walled gardens to see one of the most impressive collections of beautiful and productive plans in the region, or take a stroll to the farm shop and taste the local cheese.

The interior is still an eclectic mixture of showman’s wagon, Gypsy caravan and country cottage and the compost loo and gas-powered shower have been custom made for its new home and sited nearby.

Our guests say...

"Loved our stay at Lovestruck. Really relaxed and helpful hosts, great location and facilities. Best thing about our stay was everything!"

Mark, 25/05/2013

"The best thing was being away from everything, but still having lots to do close by. Worst thing was nipping to the loo in the dark."

Elizabeth, 01/02/2013

"We had an amazing time, despite the cold weather, once we had got the fire going we were extremely warm and snug, and the views from the lovestruck were great.  Everything we could have needed was provided, the bed was comfy if not enormous and the hamper of goodies was delicious. We also liked that our dog was allowed to come too.  Shower and toilet were great too.  I want to thank our fabulous hosts who made us tea when we arrived and transported us to our destination in the tractor.  We hugely appreciate their thoughtfulness."

Sarah, 08/12/2012

"Situated in a field with nothing but deer and bunnies and stars all around, the cosy, country chic Lovestruck provided an amazing retreat for us. We played cards by candlelight and warmed our feet by the fire. The hot solar shower was a luxury in the middle of the woods, and the owners of Pennard House were amazing - providing us with a lovely starter hamper containing items such as local butter and cider, and even towing our car out of the mud when we got stuck!"

Dana, 09/10/2012

"Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, enjoyed getting back to nature away from the city. The truck is in a beautiful field with a great forest behind, and an apple orchard in front. Very much away from it all, a bit of a struggle to get to but that was only as we were cycling. I would definitely recommend going by car, as the closest proper shop is about 6 miles away. However, we were treated very nicely to a hamper containing essentials and Prosecco (big bonus points), and although the owners did seem like they would be happy to help at any opportunity, we didn't need to ask them for anything else over the holiday. The cabin was comfortable for the 2 of us, and so quaint."

Jenna, 03/09/2012

"Best thing was the beautiful location amidst rolling hills, surrounded by plenty of greenery - felt like our own little hideaway. "

Aisling, 27/07/2012

"Enjoyed is not the right word - we came away feeling completely refreshed - we loved our stay! We loved the Lovestruck and the hamper of goodies that was provided, the heath robinson shower was also amazing!"

Sophie, 25/07/2012

"We had the most wonderful 2 days in this beautiful and unusual converted Horse Wagon, the attention to detail was second to none and the views, oh the views were absolutely stunning.  It was so lovely and cosy with a woodburning stove that one of the hotel receptionists lit for us.   The food is delicious and nothing is too much trouble for the staff.  The owners were absolutely lovely and we will most certainly be back.  Thank you for the most relaxing 2 days we have had in a long time, a little piece of paradise in a beautiful setting."

The house & grounds

Pennard House has been in the same family since the 17th Century. Martin and Susie Dearden  have lived in the main house for over 30 years, and more recently Harry and his wife Georgina have moved to East Pennard to become involved in the running of the estate.

Set in a quiet village on the last south facing slopes of the Mendip, Pennard House is a hidden gem in a rural Somerset setting and is a perfect location to relax and unwind. The Deardens have recently opened the doors of a unique event space at the house and are now offering a variety of accommodation options including traditional Bed and Breakfast in the house and Tipi accommodation in the grounds. Visitors to the Lovestruck can come enjoy this rural peace and quiet.

The Lovestruck is surrounded by woodland and set just above the Cockmill Orchard, between two large oak trees.  The woodlands offer an abundance of wildlife including deer, badgers and foxes and many birds including wild pigeons, pheasants and buzzards. The woods above the Lovestruck are well known for the beautiful carpet of bluebells in the Spring.
