Pets welcome

Pets are welcome at Inshriach but dogs must be kept on a lead in the vicinity of the farm as there are sheep in the surrounding fields. There is a £20 fine if any of them kills a chicken or bites a sheep.

A former Fire Service truck turned into a bizarre two person living space. Confused? We were too, but read on...

Ladies and gentlemen...The Beermoth. This bizarre truck, following a stint as the B&B (Bed & Buckfast) stage at Inshriach's own Insider Festival, has settled in its present location on Inshriach Estate. Walter, the creator of the Inshriach Yurt, has truly excelled himself in his seemingly never ending quest for a renovation challenge. Having liberated this 1956 Commer Q4 from the Manston Fire Museum in Kent and wrestled it back to Inshriach House, he has quite literally raised the roof (by a foot). Then he laid an oak parquet floor rescued from a Tudor mansion, salvaged snooker table slate to make a hearth and a fire escape to make a staircase. The Beermoth now also sports a completely over the top Victorian double bed, the door from one of the (now presumably a little drafty) cottages at the farm, and the former back wall of the doghouse. The mahogany plinth has been replaced with a wood-burner, the inexplicable stuffed squirrel has vacated the premises, and the cutting edge of unusual places to stay has been delighting (and slightly bemusing) guests ever since. Why not pop over to Walter's gin distillery too, recently voted Channel 4's 2015 Shed of the Year!

Our guests say...

Had a fantastic stay. Walter is very friendly and the whole place is full of interesting things.

The Beer Moth is such a fantastic place to stay, so peacefully placed by a river, and so tastefully and thoughtfully kitted out. We had a great time firing up the sauna horse box and jumping into the river, and spending our evenings by candlelight.

I took my boyfriend to Scotland for the first time (to meet my parents) & then I wanted to treat him to a wee romantic getaway. The Beermoth was so beautiful and we really enjoyed living in the wild for two nights. It was very romantic.

The Beermoth lived up to our high expectations, the welcome was friendly, the setting secluded and serene, accommodation cozy, comfortable and fun. Sauna lovely and overall very relaxing weekend.

Our second stay at the Beermoth, absolutely perfect again. Brilliant location and complete back to basics. The Beermoth is cosy and quite possibly my favourite place in the world.

It was absolutely lovely to stay in the Beermoth. Unique, and cosy. I think that for me the best thing was the quiet. I loved how the couple of other dwellings were well spaced so you felt you had the whole place to yourself despite knowing a few other people might be about. The river was a delight, as was the sauna. We enjoyed the rustic nature of cooking on an open fire/hotplate on the woodstove. We wouldn't mind living there to be honest! A well kitted out space, romantically rustic. Thanks a lot to the organisers for a unique experience. I hope it stays as minimal and quiet.

I think Walter is the real thing - the whole estate is organic and green and re use everything, not in that horrible city kinda organic way, in the way that it was always meant to be - the natural way. The beermoth itself was one of the greatest experiences i have ever had. from the laidback chickens to the walk through the fields to this amazing old truck standing in the middle of nowhere to the wonderful detail like firelighters, little candles to the upcycled old rim barbeque outside. Even the compost loo was thought through - with a bucket of wood splinters to throw into to keep it all smelling fresh. One cannot ever imagine a more romantic and better place for the soul than staying in this truck on this estate.

It was amazing every little thing about it stunning location with lots of little quirky touches. The weather was good so we took full advantage of it and had a swim in the river and a chill out in the horse box sauna

It was perfect! From them having last minute availability on my birthday to the sunshine to sit round the fire and the snow in the morning to make us enjoy the warmth of bed, we really couldn't have asked for more.

Beautiful. Serene. Romantic. A stunning location, with the river close by for a dip if you are feeling brave. Went with my partner, we have been twice now and it is just idyllic, lovely falling asleep to the fire burning down and the candles slowly fading. Making a cup of tea and your dinner on the stove is a rewarding feeling. It really is a dream location.

Excellent, gorgeous location, amazing vehicle, lovely people

Wonderful, it was just the perfect blend of comfort & rawness for us. We loved carting wood around in the snow & lighting the fire etc.

We had a wonderful stay at this unique location and would very much like to book again!

We had a fantastic time. So relaxing and wonderful friendly people running the place... very good gin too. We will definitely be back to this magical place. Loved everything about our stay thank you

Fabulous! Perfect in fact. My husband knew nothing about this part of our trip to Scotland. Aviemore loomed on the Sat Nav and he brightened. Then dipped a bit when we got totally lost in Lord Sombody's estate. Then grimaced, then rallied when the Land Rover appeared to take us to The Beermoth and then........ RAPTURE. He was in seventh heaven. What a sight!

We had one of the best weekends away we've ever had. Such a beautiful spot and a lot of hard work has gone into making it a really special place. It was great to be left to it but at the same time everyone was helpful and friendly and available if you needed anything. Will definitely be going back soon.

It was wonderful - the best parts of camping with none of the trickier parts. it felt like a rare and unusual thing.

The Beermoth was fantastic. Just a cute and quirky place to stay. We loved 'playing house' it made the trip so much more special then staying in a B&B.

Couldn't have been further from our comfort zone and couldn't have been more perfect. Loved every minute in beautiful and serene surroundings. Toilets were a blessing.

Just wonderful. Staying in the Beermoth was so unique and special, in the evening with the lanterns lit and the stove burning it was the cosiest and most relaxing place I have possibly ever been in my life. Exactly what I needed before getting back to the stress of work. Walter, the incredibly likeable owner could easily make twice as much money by having more yurts, tents etc but chooses not to and this means you have seclusion, peace and quiet. The estate has several walks directly from the field you're in, but it's a short drive to others if you would prefer. I genuinely loved this place - it's charming from the location and Walter's wonderful creations right down to Rosie and Monty the dogs. Go there.

A beautiful, quirky, comfy and peaceful setting.

The Beermoth was beautiful and it snowed on our first night, which was amazing.

"We had a wonderful time at the Beermoth, so cosy and romantic. It was perfect. So much so that we have now booked to go back the moment we arrived home. We were made to feel really welcome and the place is simply stunning."

"Blissful isolation. Reading each other stories under candlelight with a bottle of wine and the wood burning stove roaring and the rain beating down on the canvas roof-top above us in the middle of the Cairngorms National Park just can't be beaten.."

"Walter was a great host. The beermoth was awesome and the location out of this world. The recommended places to eat and do activities werqe all great. We didn't want to leave."

"For our 10 year anniversary, the Beermoth offered a cosy retreat, away from city living and wifi. The weather wasn't on form but it didn't dampen our spirits. It was inviting, had everything we could need in a romantic setting, among beautiful scenery"

"The Beermoth, near Aviemore, Scotland. Stayed in this vintage fire truck which was very well kitted out inside. In a beautiful location that felt really remote but with facilkities at the farm near by. Really enjoyed the unusually accomodation and the fact that we had everything we needed"

"Fantastic, warm welcome from the hosts. The beer moth had everything you could need & more. Loved the furnishings, comfiest bed & best nights sleep I've had in a long time. The added bonus of the quirky sauna, most beautiful surroundings. Loved having the option to cook inside& out & that firewood, bathroom facilities etc were easy to reach. It's just an amazing place & Walter the owner is an absolute genius, can't wait to go back"

"Our stay far surpassed all of our expectations which were high to being with anyway.   Our gift couldn't have been better chosen as it matched so many of the things we love best from the location to the old fire lorry conversion. Everything was brilliant!   From the warm welcome to the time our hosts took to bid us goodbye, there is not a single negative thing we can bring to mind.  Perfect from start to finish.    Details such as the little vase of meadow flowers and a well-filled log and kindling basket meant a great deal too."

"It was absolutely incredible! The Beermoth is so cosy, so homely and just perfect! Just the right amount of wilderness for us :) (It's nice to be able to wash in a hot shower after all that walking!) The facilities are obviously well looked after and all the people we met, particularly on the farm, were really accommodating, friendly and helpful. The setting itself is also a treat - the Scottish scenery in Autumn is a must see in my opinion, spectacular skies! And when you have such an amazing base to return to every evening, why wait to go and visit??"

"We loved our stay; were made to feel very welcome, had everything we could have needed, were in a beautiful location and plenty to do in the surrounding areas. Best thing: the unique location, loved exploring and finding the genius projects on site! We felt very comfortable there and had everything we could have needed for our stay. No bad bits!"

"It was amazing, I loved everything about it. Best: totally left to it - felt like we owned it :)  Worst: we don't own it. There was a different stove than pictured but it made no difference to our stay."

"We loved the old fire truck we stayed in. The location was so beautiful and quiet. Our host was there but left us to ourselves and there were no do's and don't everywhere! We barbecued and cooked on the stove which took a long time but was great fun. Our only problem was should we stay up late sitting at the barbecue or retire to the cosy, candle and fairylit truck. Slept so well."

"Excellent little hideaway. Completely peaceful and great little wood burning stove"

"The bed was really comfy - the best I've ever slept in actually...there were no 'worst' things to mention other than the usual bad luck with the weather!"

"It was the best holiday I can remember! Usually glad to get back to my own bed after camping, but the Beermoth was far cosier. Best thing was the warmth, comfort, of the accommodation.  Worst thing, going back to the big bad real world after our stay."

"Perfect beermoth, perfect woodburning stove, perfect fairylights, perfect setting, perfect horsebox sauna, perfect hosts.........PERFECT!!!

The style of accommodation, the beautiful setting, the private field space, the cosiness of the truck, the riverside sauna, the welcome for us and our dog, the local knowledge of the hosts - just the place to kick your boots off, breathe in the fresh air and enjoy a cheeky drink!!!"

"Fabulous time in the Beermoth. Location, scenery, peace and quiet. Accommodation and hosts were wonderful. I would highly recommend it."

"We had an awesome time at the Beermoth! Walter has thought of everything you'd need to make the most of your glamping experience. The Beer Moth was comfortable, cosy and great fun."

"We all absolutely loved it, dog friendly, amazing location, the feeling of isolation was fab, the hot tub and sauna will have to be tried out on another (warmer) visit but what a wonderful idea. Walter and everyone at Inshriach were really friendly and helpful. Beermoth itself was converted really well - thank you so much for all the blankets. Can't wait to book again."

"We had a wonderful stay - it was the peaceful, relaxing and unusual weekend away we were looking for. Everything we needed was there and the hosts were very welcoming. The accommodation was better than we had expected and really made our trip."

"Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The Beer Moth is utterly wonderful and was a real treat. Was just perfect. Website states 700m to the bathroom facilities and it did not seem that far at all. Only a short walk through a field."

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Beermoth truck. Walter was very welcoming (as well as the family dog) The truck was well stocked with cooking utensils, logs etc upon our arrival. The sauna added such a special touch to the trip. Myself and my boyfriend enjoyed chopping logs, preparing the fire and eating meals made on the stove. The bed was extremely comfortable and despite the windy nights we managed to stay cosy and were utterly content with all the blankets and bottles for warmth! Thanks again Walter for making our stay at the Beermoth so unique and unforgettable! We will be back at some point and will be sure to recommend the truck!"

"This has to be one of the most adventurous stays we have ever had. What a magical location and a beautiful old truck. Everything was ticketyboo!"

Jan, Allana and Floss

"We loved it! Glamping in an old fire truck was as quirky and fun as we expected. It was comfortable, enjoyable chopping our own wood and cooking food on the fire burner plate. Perfect."

"This was simply the BEST weekend away EVER!!! My husband, our dog Gary and myself had a fantastic stay. It was even better than I imagined. No music, TV or mobile phones.......excellent!!! It was so cosy and romantic. Making the fire to have a cup of tea and the porridge bubbling away on a morning.....after the alcohol bubbling the night before ;-) the only form of light on a night was candle light and we lived it.  The bed was soooooooooooooooper comfy and the surprise of the horse trailer converted into a mini sauna was just fantastic!!!!!   Absolutely loved it!!!!!! Thank you so very much xxxx"

"The beer moth was a lovely relaxing place to stay. Very peaceful and back to basics. comfortable and cosy accommodation"

"Bbq's by the beer moth looking at the amazing night sky and waking to those misty Scottish mornings ...........wonderful"

"The stay was excellent, welcoming staff and fantastic accommodation."

"We loved staying in the Beer Moth. It was the most unique place we have every stayed and we thoroughly enjoyed getting away and relaxing. Best thing- staying in a converted fire truck and using a wood stove for cooking and staying warm. Worst thing - there wasn't one!"

"We loved our stay! It was a surprise for my boyfriends birthday and it was a greatweekend, highly recommend if you want to get away from it all."

"Amazing experience. Perfect location and very reasonable price. The owners were very friendly and the accommodation was well maintained and cared for. Loved having nothing but fields, a river and mountain scenery around us-felt really isolated."

"We really enjoyed it! We both had a great time. It was such a unique experience and a major bonus that we could bring our dog with us. A seriously great place to stay! The best thing was how cozy the Beer Moth was! Plenty of warmth and cosiness as well as plenty of charm. I can't think of anything negative. The weather was quite cold, but that is neither the fault of the Beer Moth, nor was it a hindrance to our enjoyment of our time there."

"Loved it. Would definitely go back. Beautiful area and great place to stay."

"We had the best time, it's an amazing set up in an even more amazing setting. The converted truck is so charming and such a unique place to stay and the host was incredibly welcoming and helpful. It was a very relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable experience."

"We had a fantastic time in the Beer Moth - quirky and wonderful accommodation."

"Loved it, loved it, loved it! The quirkiness and the location were beautiful."

"LOVED IT!! It was a magical and rural and quiet break and beautiful walking around abouts in the mountains of the Cairngorms. Walter, the owner was so friendly and welcoming. There are fresh eggs in the yard that guests can buy, there is recycling for everything and the grounds are beautiful."

"Walter was very friendly and went out of his way to make us welcome. We fell for the mountains and very beautiful forest nearby, as well as Monty the dog, who took us on a 10 mile guided walk in the forest on our first day! (sorry Walter)"

"During our 2 week vacation in Scotland, the two nights we spent at Inshriach House was the highlight of our trip. Walter was an amazing host and filled us in on what to do while we were in the area and took us to the local pub one night!"
