Gert’s Yurt – Brecon Beacons, Carmarthenshire

  • Yurt for 2

1 double

An authentic Mongolian yurt with colour, style and a ‘yurtmobile’ housing the kitchen and bathroom. Great views of the Towy valley...

Another wonder of colour to go with Waterfall Yurt at Ty Cefn Tregib; Gert’s yurt is a little further from the house than its sibling. Its private piece of hillside is bounded by trees on three sides with a view out over the Towy Valley and only the occasional ponies in the field next door for neighbours. A little modernity meets the traditional style of the yurt in the form of the yurt mobile. This handy hut, a few metres from your yurt, contains your own private shower and loo and your kitchen. The yurt itself has a wood-burner to keep it cosy and a big double bed, which might also not be quite traditional, but certainly makes for a comfy camping experience. The two cosy camping chairs on the deck are perfect for sitting out in the evening and watching the sun set on the hills and the village below. The area abounds with historical and cultural places to visit. Llandeilo is just a stroll away with some great independent shops and a wealth of places to eat serving everything from fish & chips to fine food for a special occasion.

Our guests say...

"Loved it despite the rain! We were very warm and the yurt was beautiful."

Judi, 23/09/2011

"It was like camping but with none of the hardships! The yurt was characterful, cozy and warm with a log-burning stove. We had a comfy bed, well equipped kitchen, excellent shower and all in a lovely situation beside its own waterfall! There is lots to do in the area - from serious mountain hikes, endless castles, peaceful river valleys and quaint towns. And the lovely coastline is easy to get to, uncrowded and beautiful."

A little history

Mary and John bought Ty Cefn Tregib in 1989 as redundant farm buildings and converted the main coach house and stable block themselves into a large family home. They then set about reclaiming and refurbishing the other buildings on the land. When all the children had left home, around fifteen years ago, they started operating as a B&B.

The yurts are a reasonably recent development but could have come about a little sooner. Some time around 2001, Mary saw one and wasinstantly smitten. She then spent a remarkably persistent six years convincing John that it was a good idea. Once the first yurt was up, it became an instant success and was soon followed by a second.

The reason Mary & John do so much to bring to people to Ty Cefn Tregib is because they feel so privileged to live in such a beautiful place and thoroughly enjoy sharing it with others. All the children have now settled back in the area with children of their own and everyone is involved with “Ty Cefn Tregib” in one way or another.

Ty Cefn Tregib is in an incredible location in the westernmost corner of the Brecon beacons National Park. Mary and John's land adjoins a woodland nature reserve (Tregib Woods) where there are deer, badgers and foxes aplenty. There are also Red Kites, Buzzards, and a wealth of other woodland and farmland birds.

Ty Cefn Tregib is not off grid at present, but has been designed with a view to doing so. Use of the brook to generate hydroelectric power is currently under investigation.
