The 76er – Brecon Beacons, Carmarthenshire

  • Airstream for 2

1 double

A gleaming, refurbished Airstream trailer brings Americana to Wales. Kitsch comfort and retro style in the Towy Valley...

Alongside Ty Cefn Tregib’s two authentic Mongolian yurts comes this shining slice of another, slightly more modern culture. The 76er, named after its vintage, has crossed the pond and settled in its private dell in a quiet corner of the Towy Valley, as far removed from the land of its origin as you can imagine.
The trailer has a king sized double bed but, thanks to its 31ft length, there is still plenty of room inside it for the kitchen and lounge areas with a small dining table and a sofa. There is also a DVD tv in the main room, because what Americana experience would be complete without a couple of movies? The adjacent shower room houses the “separet” loo and the shower with all the hot water you could want.
The area around the 76er abounds with historical and cultural places to visit. Llandeilo is just a stroll away with some great independent shops and a wealth of places to eat serving everything from fish & chips to fine food for a special occasion.

A little history

Mary and John bought Ty Cefn Tregib in 1989 as redundant farm buildings and converted the main coach house and stable block themselves into a large family home. They then set about reclaiming and refurbishing the other buildings on the land. When all the children had left home, around fifteen years ago, they started operating as a B&B.

The yurts are a reasonably recent development but could have come about a little sooner. Some time around 2001, Mary saw one and wasinstantly smitten. She then spent a remarkably persistent six years convincing John that it was a good idea. Once the first yurt was up, it became an instant success and was soon followed by a second.

The reason Mary & John do so much to bring to people to Ty Cefn Tregib is because they feel so privileged to live in such a beautiful place and thoroughly enjoy sharing it with others. All the children have now settled back in the area with children of their own and everyone is involved with “Ty Cefn Tregib” in one way or another.

Ty Cefn Tregib is in an incredible location in the westernmost corner of the Brecon beacons National Park. Mary and John's land adjoins a woodland nature reserve (Tregib Woods) where there are deer, badgers and foxes aplenty. There are also Red Kites, Buzzards, and a wealth of other woodland and farmland birds.

Ty Cefn Tregib is not off grid at present, but has been designed with a view to doing so. Use of the brook to generate hydroelectric power is currently under investigation.
