Lovely camp with separate bedroom and kitchen huts and perfect seclusion, just half an hour from Bristol

The Humble Hideaway has been specially created to make the most of its quiet setting. Kate Humble and husband Ludo stepped in to save Upper Meend Farm when it was nearly sold off in pieces. They and their team have preserved and tend it carefully and sensitively, keeping sheep and cattle as well as doing their best to help all the local wildlife flourish. The hut is in its own private corner, screened from the curious animals with a chunky log fence that encloses a large wooded area where you'll find your two huts, your firepit and your bench seating under the trees. It's an off-grid, cosy space that suits its woodland haven perfectly.

The first hut, custom made by master craftsmen Plankbridge, is the bedroom, containing the big double bed. The mattress is also custom made and stuffed with wool from the farm's own sheep. The second hut was once the property of Great Western Railways and has been ingeniously converted into your kitchen and shower room. The well worn exterior conceals a sparkling new shower, hobs and seating area. A double compost loo about five metres away from the huts and the outdoor fire pit complete your private hidden camp. Around the farm you'll find plenty to do. You can join one of the crafty courses and learn anything from woodcraft to sheep shearing, walk in the woods and hills or head down to Kingstone Brewery for a tour and a dark ale.

Winter Bookings: Please note, the water at the Humble Hideaway is from a borehole; if the temperature drops below 0c there will be no running water and you'll be notified as soon as possible. If Humble by Nature cancel the booking due to freezing temperatures you will be offered a full refund or the opportunity to reschedule your booking.

Our guests say...

"We had such a relaxing, cosy time & we loved the way the huts were decorated. We had a glorious weekend"

"It was absolutely wonderful - we'd already stayed there in late May and had a great time then, which prompted us to go back"

"Absolutely perfect, fantastic, amazing, the list of compliments go on!!! :)))))"

"It was a very peaceful and relaxing place to stay with only sheep and cows in the adjacent field!"

"Yes, setting, accomodation and weather were all wonderful!"

"We absolutely loved every minute of our stay. Every aspect of our break from start to finish was outstanding in every respect, we couldn't have been happier :)"

"We loved our stay at The Humble Hideaway. We wanted a quiet weekend away from the city to relax and do a whole lot of nothing. The hideaway was stunning, well equipped and in a perfect location. Tim the farmer was lovely and helpful too."

"So many good things to say about this place, the people and animals you find there. An absolute gem and so very pleased we found it. The welcome was wonderful, and despite the huts not being ready Kate, Sarah and Ludo made us feel completely at home with tea, cakes and foraging demonstrations ... And when they were ready we were taken by 4x4 (after herding naughty sheep back in to their pens) to the prettiest little camp with every thing you might possibly need, surrounded by beautiful scenery. Ludo showed us around our new home, explained various things, showed us where we could find recommendations about the area, and how we could make contact with the 'outside world' if we needed to. Then off he went and left us to enjoy the peace and perfect seclusion. We chopped wood, built fires, bbq'd burgers, toasted marshmallows, relaxed in hammocks, wrapped up in duvets on sheep wool mattresses, and braved the compost loos all from our little corner of Monmouthshire. Then, when it was time to make our way back to the world, we walked through fields of friendly sheep, lambs, pigs and cows. A real treasure and the perfect birthday stay. Thank you x"

"we absolutely loved it."

"We had a thoroughly wonderful time.  Farmer Tim met us and showed us our home for 4d/3n and we set up camp in what felt like a remote part of Wales, even though we were only 4 miles above Monmouth! Best: the mattress, the kotlich, the remoteness worst: the grizzly bears in the forest at night"
