Nant yr Onnen - Cambrian mountains, Dyfed
Cambrian mountain retreat in a warm octagonal cabin
The Cambrian Mountains National Park, reaching between the Brecon Beacons and Snowdonia, is wild and wonderful. Nant yr Onnen with its 2.5 acres of gardens, streams and woodland is the perfect Cambrian retreat. The possibility of adventure fills the fresh air; there's fantastic walking and canoeing on the doorstep and a good old-fashioned pub.
Fiona and Tim, your friendly hosts', passions and personalities permeate Nant yr Onnen and The Cabin itself. The gardens are lush and informal with paths winding between trees and wild flowers. It all has a very natural, comfortable feel, a connection to the land which is literal as well as figurative – electricity and water are both sourced from the mountain stream. The Cabin is as cosy as it is creatively designed: a double bed that swings down from the wall, a shower, kitchen and wood-burner are cleverly fitted into the octagonal cabin's colourful nooks and crannies. Big windows flood The Cabin with afternoon sun burnishing the earthy, Indian-red walls; at night the wood-burner creates a warm glow. Fiona's choice of fabrics and cushions completes the Wales-meets-India feel. Unconventional maybe for deepest Wales but wonderfully relaxing and inspired by the natural environment as well as Fiona and Tim's travels.
As The Cabin is surrounded by sheep, pets cannot be accommodated. There is one single child's bed which doubles as a seating area in the daytime.
