About Priory Bay

The Priory Bay Hotel is the original “country house hotel by the sea”. Set within the grounds of a stunning 70 acre estate adjoining the spectacular beach of Priory Bay, the hotel also has its own private beach, tennis courts, swimming pool and the best six hole golf course in the South of England.

The Priory Bay is famous for its food with two restaurants, one the Priory Oyster offering casual dining with its terrace overlooking the sea and fabulous sea food. And the more formal muralled Regency Island Room. The hotel aims to provide a haven of peace and relaxation with attentive but unstuffy service.

Wildlife & environment

The extensive grounds are a haven for wildlife including rare birds of prey, owls, red squirrels, dragonflies and orchids. The lawns and terraced gardens were originally designed by the famous doyenne of landscape architecture, Gertrude Jekyll.

Charter a yacht

The Isle of Wight is a world-renowned centre for watersports, boating and sailing, and at Priory Bay you have the fantastic opportunity to charter The Infanta. This magnificient two-masted yacht, built in New York in 1947, was originally designed to cruise the Long Island Sound but she makes a fantastic sight cutting through the waters of the Solent. Take a champagne cruise or get your waterproofs on and set sail.

The tranquil landscape and Kitchen Gardens (producing a host of seasonal produce for the kitchens) are overseen by dedicated and talented gardeners. Explore the estate and spot them lovingly tending to all manner of flora and fauna: from beautiful roses to rare orchids or Chantaney carrots to homegrown watercress - fresh from the natural ponds. Delicious Priory Bay ceps, herbs and garlic are also harvested direct from the grounds and create mouth-watering dishes served in the award-winning restaurants:

The Priory Oyster

Specialising in fresh fish and seafood, it’s relaxed, yet stylish, surroundings showcase teak furniture, nautical paintings and French windows which open onto a terrace adorned with Mediterranean orange, lemon and fig trees.

The Island Room

A more formal dining experience, the Regency-muralled Island Room showcases classic gourmet cuisine with an à la carte and six-course tasting menu. The room itself is stunning, with gilded plasterwork and fine murals depicting picturesque views of the Isle of Wight. Decorated in 1810, the mural was painted by the Crace Brothers who also completed the spectacular Brighton Pavilion for the Prince Regent.

In summer the restaurant’s floor-to ceiling windows showcase dramatic views across the hotel grounds to the Solent, while in winter its large roaring, wood-burning fire creates a wonderful, warm ambience.
