Courtney - Safari tent in Cornwall, United Kingdom

Last cache: 10:01:02, Thursday 27 July 2017

Hustyn Mine Park

Suitable for children aged 4 and over

Not suitable for pets

Stumble upon some great wild swimming spots in the Cornish woodlands or soak in the private hot tub

Impressive Courtney stands on 15ft high wooden platforms and seems to rise out of the dramatic pine forests below. It was put up by Dick and Bodge-It, a local master carpenter and landscaper, respectively - and grandfathers to boot! Inside it's pure indulgence: deep fleeces on the wooden floors (best sunken into barefoot), a leather sofa with wool throws for snuggling up, and seriously comfortable beds - each with its own hot water bottle. Across the Cornish slate floor is the bathroom, with a double sink and walk-in shower that chucks out piping hot water aplenty.

Wander through the surrounding valleys for the perfect picnic spot and a tantalising view of the sea at Polzeath and Pentire, then follow the stream which trickles down to the spring-fed lake. If you’re brave enough to dive in, the hot tub will be all the more rewarding after the breathless scramble back up the hill. You can connect to the 18 mile camel trail straight from the site, by bike or on foot, and end up at the Camel vineyard for a glass of fizz. You’re only 20 mins from Padstow and Rock where you'll be spoilt for choice for great places to eat. When the littluns are tucked up, there’s time for a last look at the sweeping view from the deck, where you can hear the distant sound of the rushing waterfalls below, and take in a belly-full of sleep-inducing Cornish air.

Our guests say...

Stunning place, would highly recommend, back to basics but still with some top luxuries! Richard was great and very helpful.

Amazing stay at the Courtney. We loved this place, peaceful surrounding. Amazing views, fab hottub, good decor, clean and warm! Enough wood/lighter etc for more than our stay. Richard was fab, came up at a drop of a hat when we needed help with the hottub.

We had an amazing long weekend at Hustyn Mine Park in the Courtney tent! The views are incredible from the balcony and sitting with a glass of fizz watching the sun go down was a perfect end to my birthday. The kids loved sleeping in the cosy cupboard and I've never slept in such a comfortable bed! Everything is so well designed and beautifully decorated - it was a boutique hotel experience in the great outdoors. It got fairly chilly in the evenings/mornings so pack big socks/jumpers and wellies as the grass gets dewy. The stove quickly warmed everything up though. Can't wait to return - hopefully for longer next time!

This place is amazing! Immaculately decorated, every detail has been carefully considered. We were a group of six celebrating a 30th birthday, and it was perfect! It being late October, and me being someone who feels the cold very easily (to the torment of others having to listen to my complaints), I was a little concerned about being uncomfortable, but with a couple of warm layers and the wood burner going, you're soon warm and cosy. And for outside, there's the hot tub, which was probably everyone's favourite part! A cold autumn night, relaxing beneath the stars - what could be more perfect? (we even saw some shooting stars!). Richard was great and very helpful! I can't recommend the Courtney tent enough; we certainly hope to come back!

A perfect late summer getaway for friends. It was super cosy and warm despite the high winds (glad Richard advised us to being earplugs - it gets a little noisy at night!) Lighting the fire to get the shower warmed up and dinner on the go was easy and added to the adventure. With the exception of a walk in the woods and a bike ride from Wadebridge to Padstow (great!) we spent most of our time in front of the fire playing cards. We cooked on the open fire and watched the stars from the very hot hot tub! A perfect, peaceful retreat where you feel totally alone and touch back down with nature.

Amazing stay at Courtney. We didn't want to leave! Beautiful views, completely in the middle of no where, we were spoiled for choice whether to sit on the balcony, the swing bench or the hot tub. We chose all three!

We had a delightful stay in Courtney. It's called a safari tent, which in this case is a very large tent constructed on a level platform on the side of a hill near Wadebridge. It was spacious, luxurious and had a lovely view from the balcony. Richard arrived soon after us, texting us to make contact, and was very friendly, approachable and helpful from the start and throughout our stay, explaining the best way to light the fires and keep them lit. There are three - one for the hot tub, one for the shower/hot water and one for the main stove /oven which helps heat the tent on cooler evenings.

We had a fantastic time! Great location, helpful hosts and well equipped accommodation.

We stayed for 2 nights with our 2 children (aged 6 & 2) as part of our Cornwall holiday. We had such a great time! The setup is very different to anything that we have ever stayed in or seen. The views were awesome, sitting on the balcony (or in the hot tub) watching the sun go down and the stars come out was a real treat. The beds were really comfy and the kids loved it. Our 6 year old staying in one of the twin rooms in a single, but very snuggly under all the blankets. Our 2 year old staying in the double cabin bed, which had a cot side to keep him safe (contained). The walking was awesome. From the farm land you can walk into the National Forest along various trails. We did this for nearly 3 hours, the kids loved it and we didn't see 1 other person in that time. The hosts were great, really helpful and accommodating. I would recommend this place to anyone. The devil is in the detail, and the attention to details, the little things, made this all the more special.

What a fabulous place! Tent Courtney was the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of daily life. There were 5 of us girls who were looking for a quiet place to catch up and relax with wine and nature- perfect! Richard and Niki were great hosts and very helpful before we had even arrived. We emailed to see if we could stay an extra night and they quickly replied telling us that due to another group moving tents we were able to. On request from us Richard also kindly fired up the hot tub for us so it was on it's way for when we arrived. We were quite unlucky with the weather but they didn't matter. The wood fired hot tub was amazing even in the wind and rain! We actually think we enjoyed it more that way! It was lovely and hot with stunning views over the forest -if the weather isn't great then we recommend a supply of prosecco nearby so you don't have to keep getting in and out of the toasty hot water! We went for a tranquil walk in the forest and after a few miles walk to nearby Wadebridge we treated ourselves to a refreshing cider and popped into Granny Wobbly's homemade fudge shop for some scrumptious sweet treats. Absolutely will be back and can't recommend enough! Xxx

We were looking for somewhere unusual and quiet to stay as a family for a break to celebrate 18th and 21st birthdays - what a wonderful find Hustyn Mine Park and Courtney was. Richard our lovely host met us and transported us and our luggage across his field to our home for the next few days - hard to impress 18-21 year olds but Cortney did! Next came a great show round and info on how to fire up the wood burning stoves and hot tub and a number to contact Richard if we needed any help at some point. We didn't need to call - it all worked perfectly and a wonderful weekend was had by all. The view from the hot tub is just fantastic. Will definitely try and go back again when we can. Thank you Richard and Niki

I couldn't wait to write this review!! We had such a brilliant time here. I booked this trip as a surprise for my mum (60), brother & sister (25) and myself (32). We are still suffering from Tent Courtney holiday blues! The setting is simply stunning, surrounded by rolling hills and countryside. What a view to wake up to. The hot tub was such a highlight, even on our one day of dreadful weather we sat in it all morning and evening listening to the birds. The tent itself is beautifully thought out, designed and furnished, complete with the comfiest pillows we have EVER experienced! Must bring essentials - wellies, flip-flops for getting out of hot tub, torches (we used head torches) and some warm comfy clothes for the evenings. Richard made us feel extremely welcome as did Olive his lovely lab! This is a very special place indeed and everyone who visits will leave feeling refreshed and very thankful that they stayed at Huystyn Mine Park. We'll be back for sure :-)

We had a lovely relaxing stay in our tent, the hosts were very welcoming and friendly. Richard was really helpful and quick to help us with the fire for the hot tub. The location is amazing, such beautiful surroundings and lovely being in the middle of nowhere! We managed the narrow country lanes to get to the local towns but really enjoyed relaxing in our text using the hot tub! A really unique tent and a fantastic setting and views. Extremely well equipped including the kitchen and bathrooms. The beds in the bedroom were extremely comfortable and cosy for a tent!We will be recommending this to our friends and family, I'm sure we will also be back at some point too! If we could give more then 10 for how was our holiday we would give more!

I booked up tent Courtney for my 30th birthday celebration with some friends and we were all blown away by the beauty of the location and spectacular views. Richard was a great host and made us all feel really welcome. Despite being a bit unlucky with the weather we still had such an amazing experience here and we're all keen to come back and stay again! There are some lovely beaches nearby, which we enjoyed exploring on our sunny day and it was such a treat to eat breakfast outside on the balcony surrounded by lush green hills and woodland. The hot tub is a great touch and definitely one of our highlights! Even in the rain, it was wonderful to relax in there and take in the gorgeous surroundings. The tent itself was very luxurious and beautifully designed. It had everything we needed, with a well equipped kitchen and the beds were so comfortable and cosy (especially with the hot water bottles the hosts thoughtfully provided). I highly recommend staying here as it's such a unique and special place-we all felt completely refreshed afterwards and only wish we could have stayed longer!

Absolutely stunning location, facilities top notch, really 5 star and the pictures do not do it justice. Richard was super welcoming and took the time to explain everything fully.

We planned to visit Courtney for a few days of R&R and that's exactly what the place offered. We were incredibly lucky with the weather and spent most of our time in the hot tub, on the balcony or by the BBQ and fire pit. The views were spectacular, the beds super comfy and the location was just heavenly.

We wanted to have a long weekend away from it all, to relax, unwind and spend quality time with our children. Courtney at Hustyns Mine Park gave us all of that and more.Communication from Richard and Niki was prompt and gave us all of the information we needed. Despite being off the beaten track, we found it easily and received a warm welcome. First impressions were amazing. The location is superb, the accommodation itself well thought through, highly considered, comfortable and the details added a sense of quality. Richard gave us all the instructions we needed and left us to it. We didn't want or need anything for the rest of our stay. The break was perfect for us as a family of four, our daughters aged 7 and 8 loved exploring and thankfully the sun shone on us the whole time. We would definitely Italy go again and would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

Amazing location. Very much off the beaten track with stunning views. Richard was a great host very helpful and answered all our queries and questions. Facilities and tent were 1st class genuinely came back home feeling rested as beds were so comfortable. Wood fired shower was very very good and hot tub a real treat to sit in and watch the sun go down of an evening. We had great weather which always helps but have no doubt had the weather not been so good this would still have been an amazing memorable holiday!

We really had the most wonderful time here at Hustyn Mine Park. Richard, the owner, was more than helpful and gave us a lot of really good recommendations for local attractions. The tent was immaculate, charming and very stylishly decorated! At Richard's suggestion, my wife and I explored the Bluebell forest nearby, where we had a magical time wandering between the trees with shafts of sunlight dappling the ground. It was so peaceful there, and we've got some great memories of the place. Setting up the hot tub took a little longer than expected on the first day, but maintained much of it's heat so was quick to get up to temperature in the days that followed. Setting up the shower and stove was really very easy though and we managed to cook some great meals during our stay. It got quite cold at night though, so I do recommend following Richard's instructions and bringing along enough warm clothes and maybe an LED torch or two for your own convenience. Overall, we had a fantastic time and couldn't recommend the place enough! We loved our time there and hope to return soon!

I arrived on a blustery day. And was a bit blown away. This is a very impressive set up. Families and space/fresh air craving couples will love this. Great style, amazing setting and strong attention to detail. Firmly in my wishlist for 2016. Can't wait to see reaction from guests who get to stay...

Meet your hosts

  • Meet Richard & Niki

Richard, a photographer, grew up in Cornwall, spending the majority of his adolescence roaming about on the farm, cycling to the beach and just doing the kind of stuff you do in Cornwall. He went to London for a few years to learn his trade but quite quickly decided that this wasn't the place to be and as soon as the opportunity arose moved out to Dorset then Gloucestershire. It was Gloucestershire that he met his wonderful wife.

They began looking for the marital home when what should come up but the very farm that Richard grew up on, they went to have a look, fell in love and moved back to Cornwall. Glamping was something Richard had always wanted to do and this was where he'd always wanted to do it!
Niki is a producer of young horses, event rider and full time mother of three. Having done an interior architecture course many years ago, Niki is in charge of the interiors of our tents and cottages. Without her they'd be naked empty shells!

  • Wildlife & the environment

There's so much wildlife at Hustyn: red deer, super rare butterflies, tonness of birds including birds of prey and so many owls which they hoot all night long. Native wading birds come up in the evening to settle on the ponds and resident wood cock may burst out in front of you when you take a morning stroll. They have some rare breed sheep to keep the gorse and brambles in check, these Soays are supposed to be the the most primitive breed in the UK, and they like to keep themselves to themselves!

Hustyn Mine Park is slowly evolving into an off-grid location, recycling is super important to Richard & Niki, as is the sustainability of all the timber they use for both burning and building. Most of it has come out of the woodland in front the tents.

Booking Terms

Canopy & Stars low price promise

Book with us in confidence knowing you won’t find that place cheaper elsewhere. All of the prices we display are set and matched by our Owners. (In this world of foreign currency, we do have to say 'subject to exchange rates' for some of our European places.)

What does ‘from price’ mean?

Our ‘from price’ is based on a four night stay in low season and designed to help you to compare different prices across our collection. Some of our Owners vary their nightly rates and check in days throughout the year, so it may differ from the rate quoted below the calendar. It is quite common (although by no means universal) for places to charge a little more in peak season or for shorter stays, to cover changeover costs. Consider booking longer stays during the cooler months if you’re looking for the lowest nightly rates.

If we discover this is the case after you have made a Booking, we reserve the right to contact you with details of the correct information and/or pricing and will give you the option to:

(1) proceed with the Booking based on the correct information and/or pricing, which may require the payment of an additional amount by you;

OR

(2) subject to availability, change your booking dates to dates when the pricing can be honoured ad so no additional charge to you. In the event that a lower price can be offered for alternative dates then the difference would be refunded;

OR

(3) cancel the Booking. If we do not receive your instructions within 5 days of contacting you, we reserve the right to cancel your Booking without liability to you.

7. Our Responsibility for your Booking

Your contract is with the Owner and its booking conditions apply. As Agent, we accept no responsibility for the actual provision of the Booking. Our responsibilities are limited to making the Booking in accordance with your instructions and acting properly in accordance with our legal duties as an Agent. We accept no responsibility for any information about the Booking that we pass on to you in good faith. However, in the event that we are found liable to you on any basis whatsoever, our maximum liability to you is limited to twice the cost of your Booking (or the appropriate proportion of this if not everyone on the Booking is affected). We do not exclude or limit any liability for death or personal injury that arises as a result of our negligence or that of any of our employees whilst acting in the course of their employment.

8. Pets

Not all properties accept pets. If you wish to take your pet on holiday, please advise us before booking and we can check whether pets are accepted at the property. You must obtain the prior consent of the Owner before taking any pets to the property. A nightly charge may be made by the Owner for each pet and additional terms may apply.

9. VAT

Many of the Owners of properties in the Canopy & Stars portfolio are not registered for VAT in which case no tax is payable. Where VAT is payable, the tax is included in the advertised holiday rental price.

10. Visa, passport and health requirements.

Unless you tell us otherwise, we assume that all members of your party are British citizens who hold or will hold full British passports valid for the entire duration of the Arrangements you chose to purchase. Information on visa, passport and health requirements, where given and applicable, is so given on this basis. Requirements may change and you are therefore strongly recommended to check the up to date position with the Owner of the Booking, Passport Office, appropriate embassy or consulate or your doctor as applicable in good time before the commencement of your holiday.

11. Insurance

You are strongly recommended to take out personal travel insurance for all members of your party. It is your responsibility to ensure that the insurance you purchase is adequate and appropriate for your particular needs. Please read your policy details and take them with you on holiday.

12. Special requests

If you have any special requests (for example dietary requirements, cots or room location), please let us know at the time of booking. We will pass on all such requests to the Owner, but unfortunately, we can't guarantee that they will be met and we will have no liability to you if they are not.

13. Group Bookings

Not all Owners accept Bookings for a single sex group (for example, a stag or hen party). Guests wanting to make such a Booking should check with us beforehand to enable us to check whether the Owner is prepared to accept the Booking. We will then advise you accordingly. In event that an Owner does not accept this type of Booking then it is with regret, that the Booking may be cancelled and cancellation fees may apply. It is the Guest’s responsibility to enquire with Canopy & Stars and/or check on our website beforehand to make sure that this type of booking is permitted.

14. Maximum Numbers

Please note that except by prior arrangement confirmed in writing, only the number of persons specified on a booking confirmation may occupy  a property. Most owners reserve the right to refuse admittance or revoke a booking if this condition is not observed and you are unlikely to receive any refund.

15. Your Responsibilities

Please note that you have a contract with the Owner of the property. As such you are under a responsibility to behave in a proper, appropriate and legal manner whilst staying at the property with due respect to the Owner, the Property and other guests and their property. You are responsible for informing the Owner of any losses or damage to the property as soon as possible. Please note that you will be liable to pay the Owner for any losses or damage to the property caused by you or a member of your party (except reasonable wear and tear). Some Owners will also require damage deposits. You must also leave the property by the check-out time specified on your booking. If any guest behaves inappropriately or improperly (of which the Owner will be the final judge on their Property), or illegally, the Owner reserves the right to ask the guest and their party (at their discretion) to leave the Property before the end of the holiday period and/or refuse any future bookings from you.  Any refund for so doing will be at the entire discretion of the Owner. In addition, the Owner reserves the right to sue the guest for any loss, damage or injury caused to the Owner, the Property or to other guests and/or their property. As agent, we will have no liability to you in these circumstances.

16. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

17. Discrepancies

In case of a discrepancy between these Agency Terms & Conditions and any other Canopy & Stars literature, these Agency Terms & Conditions shall prevail.

18. Validity clause

In the event that a court finds that a condition in these Agency Terms & Conditions is illegal or void, the illegal or void provision will be severed from the remainder of the Agency Terms & Conditions, which will continue to be valid and have full force and effect.
