Lombard Farm

Suitable for children of all ages

Not suitable for pets

There is space for a cot, but not for larger children. Pets cannot be accommodated at Orchard Cabin

A cosy cabin with its own decking and barbecue area in the corner of Lombard Farm, tucked away among the trees with a shared hot tub nearby to soak and unwind!

The Orchard Cabin is the latest addition to the lovely Lombard Farm. After many years of painstaking renovation, the site has been transformed into a site that stimulates and relaxes in equal measure. From the fabulous shared hot tub, through the woodlands and over the meadows to the beaches, the farm and the area around it have everything you need for a holiday of any type.

The cabin is nestled in its own corner of the orchard, giving it privacy but not cutting off access to The Link, 100m away. The Link, which is the homely hub of Lombard Farm has wet rooms, the loos and further kitchen facilities, although the cabin has its own electric hobs and bbq area, so you can happily stash yourselves away if you want to.

Our guests say...

Lovely welcome. Friendly people. Very very rural and you will need a car to get about unless walking for miles is your thing. All very clean and spacious. Hot tub fired up for us daily. Info if you needed it. Log cabin was stunning and had everything you needed.

Sam

It was absolutely wonderful! The cabin was gorgeous, really cosy and comfortable. It was really nice to start the day with breakfast on the decking being visited by the local wildlife: robin, chaffinch, black birds and a rabbit! Lambard farm is really well kept, the facilities are great and we feel in love with the local tone of Fowey. Many thanks for a very relaxed and beautiful holiday. I will be back!

Ruth

It was amazing from start to finish. It was totally worth the money. Linda was so helpful and she is always there if you ever need someone. We were so lucky as we had the place to ourselves. The hot tub was amazing- especially in the rain. We walked to Fowey and went on the ferry. Fowey is beautiful. Linda told us everything we needed to know and made us feel at home. We were gutted to leave! The place was magical. We loved our Cabin ❤️ The perfect getaway. We will be back later this year! ❤️

Sara

Absolutely wonderful stay at the Orchard Cabin. I completely underestimated how much there would be to do and see and just wished I'd booked a longer trip. Linda couldn't not have been a more perfect host, with mountains of knowledge about the surrounding area and advice on how to make the most of our stay. After a long day rambling through the countryside and exploring the local villages an evening of star gazing from the Hot tub was just what we needed. Everything has been thought of with the link perfectly kitted out with all the amenities (even a washing machine and drying room!) And a variety of books and board games. The cabin is the perfect place for a relax and recharge holiday and a break from city life!

Amazing holiday. Great accommodation in a stunning location with brilliant facilities.

Kate

We had the most wonderful stay at Orchard Cabin, a luxurious immersion in nature. We had a warm welcome from Linda who took time to show us around and had already prepared the hot tub - what a way to start our holiday! The understated attention to detail was really appreciated, as was the resident robin who joined us for breakfast on the decking each morning and the offer of some complementary treatments from Linda, just the ticket!

Orchard Cabin at Lombard Farm is a blissful retreat. It gives time to get away, relax and refocus. February in a wooden cabin sounds a bit Bear Grylls; it was anything but. It was warm, cosy, thoughtfully furnished and extremely comfortable. A wonderful wood burner ensured slow burning continual warmth. Linda, Anna and Malc there are quite exceptional and could not be more accommodating. Proximity to Fowey made for a great mix of river, coast (small) town and countryside a plenty. Highly recommended and uncomplicated providing much needed food for the soul. A return visit becomes irresistibly inevitable.

Sally

Had a lovely, chilled out stay in the Cabin. Very lucky with sunny weather and only rain was on the last night. Went for some nice coastal walks and popped over to Fowey for dinner at Sams. David was very welcoming and offered us all the help we needed. The 4 night stay was just what we had been looking for.

23/05/2016

Dan

We had a wonderful long weekend. The location was so peaceful and allowed us to relax. David was great at giving tips on places to visit and eat, whilst also respecting the privacy of his guests. If only we could have stayed longer....

Avril

A very last minute decision to take trip away in the UK and we found the Orchard cabin. A very relaxing log cabin with a wood burner.... is there anything better? Yes, the wood fired hot tub under the stars. Bliss thank you for making an 8 yr anniversary so special.

Will

We spent 3 nights at Lombard Farm which was tucked away from the world in a peaceful setting. The whole site was very rural and the field where we could sit and look over to the other side of the valley and watch the sun go down was lovely. The cabin was well kitted out with all the essentials for self catering and was quite spacious. We had a morning of rain so we lit the wood burning stove and were very cosy.Showering has been one of my dislikes on a camping holiday but not at Lombards farm as the wet rooms were a luxury with the under floor heating and heated towel rail. There were lots of places nearby to visit, whether it was the coast with lovely beaches or pretty walks by the River Fowey and views of the countryside. Linda who met us and looked after us during our stay was a big asset to the site as she was very friendly and helpful with suggestions of places to visit and places to eat. Altogether a relaxing break.

Frances

Our stay was perfect. Linda who met us was so helpful and friendly and even gave us a loan of waterproof jackets for our stay as well as great tips and maps for local areas of attraction. The cabin was perfect and had everything we needed as promised. The setting of Lombard farm is beautiful and facilities on site are of a high standard. Brilliant showers and everything clean and in good condition. The bed was very comfortable and the hot tub - amazing! I have not one bad comment about our stay and would visit again in a second.

At Lombard Farm

Why not spend the afternoon in the lovely shared wood fired hot tub with a glass of beer in hand, nurturing the wood fire carefully to the right temperature then celebrate with the rest of your family and friends with a warm dip, basking in the glory of a job well done!

For folks who don't mind an unheated dip there are plenty of fine wild swimming spots, off wonderful local beaches nearby.

There is apple picking in season, but if that sounds like too much hard work, just take it easy in the meadow or in the massive hammock, big enough for the whole family.

The Link, a beautiful shared space for the use of yurt, cabin and tipi guests, has books and games. There is even Wifi in the Link, yurt and tipi, if you really can't live off grid the whole time.

If you're feeling really indulgent...

Reflexology with Linda Shabtai (MAR) - you can organise this with her on arrival. Linda also has her 2nd level in Reiki.

Rainy days

The Link has a large room with a comfortable sofa, large table, underfloor heating and plenty of space, lots of games; wifi and an ipod hook up for music.

Other good rainy day options are:

The Eden Project (01726 811911) is a must if you have not seen it already

National Trust (01208 74281) there are plenty of great National Trust walks and buildings around this part of Cornwall and Lanhydrock House, which is nearby, is a real gem!

The Lost Gardens of Heligan (01726 845100) combined with a visit to Eden or the south coast make a good day out.

National Maritime Museum Falmouth (01326 313388) is worth a visit and can be combined with a day in and around Falmouth.

Tate Gallery and Barbara Hepworth Museum St Ives (01736 796226) Both the galleries and St Ives are great for a day out. You can take the train from Par, change at St Earth and arrive in the heart of the town.

Don't miss Kneehigh, our local theater company, if they are playing nearby during your stay!

The Hall for Cornwall (01872 262466) is a good venue for local and national theater. You could combine an afternoon performance with a day in Truro with its excellent shops and beautiful Cathedral. Trains go from Par or Lostwithiel and pass through beautiful countryside on the way to Truro.

Other local theatre and dance performances are at Sterts open-air theater on Bodmin Moor or the beautiful Minack Theater which is further west. (Don't forget to wrap up and take something to sit on.)

Food & Drink

At Lombard Farm

breakfast

Orchard Yurt, Meadow Tipi and Orchard Cabin share an outside firepit in the garden, perfect for meeting new friends over toasted marshmallows. The Cabin has its own barbecue and deck, and electric hobs. There's even a vegetable garden and apple trees which occasionally provide some fine ingredients, the surplus from which you might find on the table in The Link. If you feel the need for some home comforts, The Link is a beautifully appointed space shared between the yurt and the tipi, a couple of minutes from each. Inside you'll find a fridge freezer each and a kitchen equipped with a toaster, kettle and microwave. It's also where you'll find a stock of games and books, a drying room for damp clothes (there's also a washing machine), washing up stuff and the loos. The whole of The Link has underfloor heating as well, making it a cosy place to curl up.

Lombard has over 5 acres of meadow for picnics and games and beautiful walks from your doorstep to the river and National Trust woods.

For the basics

There is a small shop at the campsite at Bodinnick, which is open around breakfast and teatime, good for the essentials and about 15 min walk or 5 min drive.

If you are planning some healthy eating you could arrange for an organic 'veg box' from Riverford Farm which is delivered on a Friday. Owners Suzi and Patrick can recommend the quality of their fruit and veg. If you do order from Riverford, ask them to leave the box with your name on it in The Link, or it might end up in the house!

A few other shopping options

The nearest larger shops are in Fowey and the best way to get there, if you are not in a rush, is to walk or drive to the car park at Bodinnick and take the ferry, then walk into Fowey.

harbourside

There is a small village shop and post office in Lerryn, a pleasant village on the banks or the river, (grid reference 140570). The shop sells papers, food, wine and a good cream tea.

There is a medium sized co-op supermarket in Lostwithiel, (grid reference 106598). If you are looking to do the 'weekly shop' there is a Tesco at Holmbush (grid reference 038526) on the way to St Austell or a Morrisons by the Liskeard bypass (grid reference 642592).

There are fortnightly farmers markets in Lostwithiel and several farm vegetable stands nearby. Churchtown Farm, 01726 870375 fifteen minutes away by car, sells delicious organic beef from the farm.

The fishing port of Looe, about 20 minutes drive away has plenty of fresh fish shops.

The local pub is the Ferry Inn at Bodinnick, a twenty minute walk away or a five minute drive. It has a good atmosphere and pub food with a superb view down the river from the outside seating. The Ship Inn at Lerryn is a 15 minute drive, with good food and close by the river. There are also good local pubs in Fowey.

Fowey has an excellent selection of pubs and restaurantsto suit all tastes and pockets.

You are spoilt for choice for places to eat - whatever you fancy, there is something that will fit the bill. From fine dining in one of the exclusive hotels to relaxed bistros, pubs and quirky cafes offering glorious home made cakes; we have them all. With delicious pasties, traditional fish and chips, freshly made sandwiches and coffees available to take away, you may just want to find a spot overlooking the river and relax. You will find many eateries will have menus using the best of fresh, local produce with, of course, plenty of seafood.

There are also good pubs which serve food at Lerryn, Lostwithiel, Pelynt and Golant.

Meet your hosts

Meet Suzi & Patrick

Lombard Farm, having previously been lovingly nurtured and developed by the Collin family, was taken over in January 2017 by Suzi & Patrick. They are now at the helm, with their 3 daughters Elizabeth, Katie and Charlotte, plus Buck, the Romanian rescue terrier!

Patrick is originally from Newport South Wales, the youngest of nine. An engineer at heart, he spent 13 years in the British Army, working for some time with the Army Air Corps then leaving to study for an MBA and to work in London. He has spent the last 20 years dreaming of leaving the city life behind him and has finally succeeded (well, not quite permanently yet!). Suzi was born in London’s East End and worked in the media industry before marrying Patrick and having their daughters. She’s hoping to rekindle her love of throwing pots on a wheel!

Elizabeth has just started a sociology degree at St Mary’s Twickenham – she loves ballet and snuggling with good book.  Katie is in the final throes of her A Levels and is hoping to go on to study costume construction next year – she too loves ballet and playing around with the sewing machine. Charlotte is studying for her GCSE’s and loves wolves and Buck the terrier is one of her best buddies – busy times ahead!

Last but not least is Linda Shabtai; a very special lady who is running Lombard Farm when Patrick and Suzi aren't around. Linda has a huge amount of local knowledge and if she doesn’t know the answer to your question, she’ll find someone who does! You'll want to take her home with you!

Wildlife & the environment

Sustainability has always been at the heart of the project. Thousands of trees have been planted for both fuel and fruit. A fine vegetable patch and a potting shed have been built, a bore hole dug for the lovely fresh Lombard water, and two barns converted. More recently solar hot water for the farmhouse and guest’s showers and solar photovoltaic cells for electricityhave been installed.

Lombard Farm is in a small hamlet surrounded by other small farms and beautiful rolling hills and is within the Fowey River Valley AONB.

The farm sits in seven acres which are organically farmed, so there is plenty of wildlife. You will usually hear or see rabbits, beautiful barn owls, hedgehogs, numerous birds, bats and, if you are lucky, a dear or two, (usually nibbling at the newly planted trees!)

The farm is about four miles from the south coast, so on still nights you can hear the sound of breaking wa

wellies

ves on the coast and even ships navigating up the nearby river.

Your holiday at Lombard will be carbon neutral; wood burners for heating, pv for electricity, bore hole for water and solarhot water for showers and you can walk where you need to go! Suzi and Patrick also use eco friendly cleaning products and have full recycling facilities.

Booking Terms

Canopy & Stars low price promise

Book with us in confidence knowing you won’t find that place cheaper elsewhere. All of the prices we display are set and matched by our Owners. (In this world of foreign currency, we do have to say 'subject to exchange rates' for some of our European places.)

What does ‘from price’ mean?

Our ‘from price’ is based on a four night stay in low season and designed to help you to compare different prices across our collection. It is quite common (although by no means universal) for places to charge a little more in peak season or for shorter stays, to cover changeover costs. The correct charges will be notified to you at the time of your cancellation or amendments.

2.3 Owner’s General Cancellation Charges:

2.3.1 Cancellation by you at any time will result in your deposit being forfeited, as all deposits are non-refundable.

2.3.2 All monies paid for a holiday (deposit and balance) are non-refundable within 10 weeks before check in date.

2.3.3 Cancellation of any holiday after it has been paid in full and at a date 10 weeks or more in advance of your check in date, will result in forfeiture of your deposit (or an amount equivalent where one was not paid as the holiday was paid in full) and the balance being returned to you.

2.3.4  Cancellation insurance is available but will be a third party arrangement and not involve Canopy & Stars or the Owner in any way.

2.4 Owner’s General Amendment Charges:

2.4.1 Alterations to your Booking can only be made more than 10 weeks prior to the check in date, after which time alterations will be treated as cancellation. All alterations are subject to availability and may incur a £30 adminstration fee.

2.4.2 Differences in the total amount payable resulting from alterations will be refunded to you in the case of a decrease in price and paid by you in the case of increases in price.

Special note: Generally Owners will charge the above cancellation and amendment charges, however we must stress that these are a guide only and charges may differ from those shown here depending on the Owner. The exact charges will be notified to you by the Owner at the time of cancellation and/or can be found in the Owner’s own booking conditions which are available from the Owner on request.

3. Changes and Cancellations by the Owner

We will inform you as soon as reasonably possible if the Owner needs to make a significant change to your confirmed Arrangements or to cancel them. We will also liaise between you and the Owner in relation to any alternative Booking offered by the Owner but we will have no further liability to you.

4. Complaints

Because the contract for your Booking is between you and the Owner, any queries or concerns should be addressed to them. In the event that you have any complaint about your stay, please notify the Owner as soon as possible. If you don’t follow this procedure there will be less opportunity for the Owner to investigate and resolve your complaint and so make your stay as enjoyable as possible. Delays may also mean that amount of compensation you may be entitled to may be reduced. Whether or not your complaint is dealt with satisfactorily, please also contact us as we appreciate all feedback. It’s important to us and the Owner to know that you’ve enjoyed your stay or if anything could have been improved.

5. Pricing

Canopy & Stars reserve the right to amend advertised prices at any time on behalf of the Owner. We also reserve the right to correct errors in both advertised and confirmed prices.Special note: changes and errors sometimes occur.

6. Information & Accuracy

The information and prices shown on this website are varied from time to time and may change between the time you first view a property and make a Booking. You should check that all the details are as you expect prior to making a Booking. It is always possible that, despite our best efforts, some of the properties (including the features and extras available) may be incorrectly described and/or priced. If we discover this is the case after you have made a Booking, we reserve the right to contact you with details of the correct information and/or pricing and will give you the option to:

(1) proceed with the Booking based on the correct information and/or pricing, which may require the payment of an additional amount by you;

OR

(2) subject to availability, change your booking dates to dates when the pricing can be honoured ad so no additional charge to you. In the event that a lower price can be offered for alternative dates then the difference would be refunded;

OR

(3) cancel the Booking. If we do not receive your instructions within 5 days of contacting you, we reserve the right to cancel your Booking without liability to you.

7. Our Responsibility for your Booking

Your contract is with the Owner and its booking conditions apply. As Agent, we accept no responsibility for the actual provision of the Booking. Our responsibilities are limited to making the Booking in accordance with your instructions and acting properly in accordance with our legal duties as an Agent. We accept no responsibility for any information about the Booking that we pass on to you in good faith. However, in the event that we are found liable to you on any basis whatsoever, our maximum liability to you is limited to twice the cost of your Booking (or the appropriate proportion of this if not everyone on the Booking is affected). We do not exclude or limit any liability for death or personal injury that arises as a result of our negligence or that of any of our employees whilst acting in the course of their employment.

8. Pets

Not all properties accept pets. If you wish to take your pet on holiday, please advise us before booking and we can check whether pets are accepted at the property. You must obtain the prior consent of the Owner before taking any pets to the property. A nightly charge may be made by the Owner for each pet and additional terms may apply.

9. VAT

Many of the Owners of properties in the Canopy & Stars portfolio are not registered for VAT in which case no tax is payable. Where VAT is payable, the tax is included in the advertised holiday rental price.

10. Visa, passport and health requirements.

Unless you tell us otherwise, we assume that all members of your party are British citizens who hold or will hold full British passports valid for the entire duration of the Arrangements you chose to purchase. Information on visa, passport and health requirements, where given and applicable, is so given on this basis. Requirements may change and you are therefore strongly recommended to check the up to date position with the Owner of the Booking, Passport Office, appropriate embassy or consulate or your doctor as applicable in good time before the commencement of your holiday.

11. Insurance

You are strongly recommended to take out personal travel insurance for all members of your party. It is your responsibility to ensure that the insurance you purchase is adequate and appropriate for your particular needs. Please read your policy details and take them with you on holiday.

12. Special requests

If you have any special requests (for example dietary requirements, cots or room location), please let us know at the time of booking. We will pass on all such requests to the Owner, but unfortunately, we can't guarantee that they will be met and we will have no liability to you if they are not.

13. Group Bookings

Not all Owners accept Bookings for a single sex group (for example, a stag or hen party). Guests wanting to make such a Booking should check with us beforehand to enable us to check whether the Owner is prepared to accept the Booking. We will then advise you accordingly. In event that an Owner does not accept this type of Booking then it is with regret, that the Booking may be cancelled and cancellation fees may apply. It is the Guest’s responsibility to enquire with Canopy & Stars and/or check on our website beforehand to make sure that this type of booking is permitted.

14. Maximum Numbers

Please note that except by prior arrangement confirmed in writing, only the number of persons specified on a booking confirmation may occupy  a property. Most owners reserve the right to refuse admittance or revoke a booking if this condition is not observed and you are unlikely to receive any refund.

15. Your Responsibilities

Please note that you have a contract with the Owner of the property. As such you are under a responsibility to behave in a proper, appropriate and legal manner whilst staying at the property with due respect to the Owner, the Property and other guests and their property. You are responsible for informing the Owner of any losses or damage to the property as soon as possible. Please note that you will be liable to pay the Owner for any losses or damage to the property caused by you or a member of your party (except reasonable wear and tear). Some Owners will also require damage deposits. You must also leave the property by the check-out time specified on your booking. If any guest behaves inappropriately or improperly (of which the Owner will be the final judge on their Property), or illegally, the Owner reserves the right to ask the guest and their party (at their discretion) to leave the Property before the end of the holiday period and/or refuse any future bookings from you.  Any refund for so doing will be at the entire discretion of the Owner. In addition, the Owner reserves the right to sue the guest for any loss, damage or injury caused to the Owner, the Property or to other guests and/or their property. As agent, we will have no liability to you in these circumstances.
