Lombard Farm

Suitable for children of all ages

Pets welcome

Fabulous, fun, family glamping in Cornwall, with a big yurt, plenty of strenuous outdoor activities and a shared hot tub to wallow in!

Arrive to fresh flowers, a bottle of local apple juice, a pile of wood waiting for the woodburner and the hammock waiting for you. The shared wood-fired hot tub is just around the corner and miles of coastal paths, wild swimming spots, stunning scenery and the most restorative, relaxing family escape is just beginning.

The Orchard Yurt is surrounded by mature trees (among the thousands planted by the previous owners). It’s a two minute walk to The Link, which has a microwave, kettle and toaster if you find the need for something other than the gas hobs in the yurt. It’s also where you’ll find a few books and games, the loo and showers and a big comfy sofa.

Orchard yurt was made in Cornwall and is kitted out with a lovely wood-framed bed and two single futons which turn into comfy seats if there’s just the two of you. There’s also seating outside for warmer evenings, when the kids are in bed and you’ve got nothing but the wine to worry about.

Our guests say...

We had an amazing stay. Just what we needed and everyone on the farm was so family and helpful. Beautiful place!

Suzy

It was the ideal place to try glamping for the first time. It was a large site but with only three properties so secluded but in touch with others when you wanted to be. The views were fantastic and so were the night skies.

Sarah

Went away with my partner and another couple and stayed in the yurt. Had plenty of space inside the yurt for all four of us and were all very comfortable. Hardly saw anyone else on the farm for the whole of our stay, although Linda was always very helpful and offered plenty of advise re local things to do. The hot tub was well worth the wait and we used it every single day of our stay.

Emma

The whole stay from arrival to departure was great. We had a very warm welcome and lots of useful tips to help us make the most of our stay. The accommodation and surroundings were perfect for us and the whole family had a really enjoyable holiday as a result.

We had another lovely stay at this location. This is our third trip back here and we adore it.

We loved the Yurt at Lombard Farm. Even though we were there in one of the wettest weeks of August, the yurt was cosy, the Link was very useful (brilliant showers), and the hot tub was magical.

The location up on the hill overlooking Fowey estuary, gives you a sense of wilderness, but close enough to drive to town for exploring shops etc. This Yurt is large, and well equipped, the fire is again big so a lot of heat is generated, making for cosy nights under the canopy, watching dusk fall.........."

At Lombard Farm

Why not spend the afternoon in the lovely shared wood fired hot tub with a glass of beer in hand, nurturing the wood fire carefully to the right temperature then celebrate with the rest of your family and friends with a warm dip, basking in the glory of a job well done!

For folks who don't mind an unheated dip there are plenty of fine wild swimming spots, off wonderful local beaches nearby.

There is apple picking in season, but if that sounds like too much hard work, just take it easy in the meadow or in the massive hammock, big enough for the whole family.

The Link, a beautiful shared space for the use of yurt, cabin and tipi guests, has books and games. There is even Wifi in the Link, yurt and tipi, if you really can't live off grid the whole time.

If you're feeling really indulgent...

Rainy days

The Link has a large room with a comfortable sofa, large table, underfloor heating and plenty of space, lots of games; wifi and an ipod hook up for music.

Other good rainy day options are:

The Eden Project (01726 811911) is a must if you have not seen it already

National Trust (01208 74281) there are plenty of great National Trust walks and buildings around this part of Cornwall and Lanhydrock House, which is nearby, is a real gem!

The Lost Gardens of Heligan (01726 845100) combined with a visit to Eden or the south coast make a good day out.

National Maritime Museum Falmouth (01326 313388) is worth a visit and can be combined with a day in and around Falmouth.

Tate Gallery and Barbara Hepworth Museum St Ives (01736 796226) Both the galleries and St Ives are great for a day out. You can take the train from Par, change at St Earth and arrive in the heart of the town.

Don't miss Kneehigh, our local theater company, if they are playing nearby during your stay!

The Hall for Cornwall (01872 262466) is a good venue for local and national theater. You could combine an afternoon performance with a day in Truro with its excellent shops and beautiful Cathedral. Trains go from Par or Lostwithiel and pass through beautiful countryside on the way to Truro.

Other local theatre and dance performances are at Sterts open-air theater on Bodmin Moor or the beautiful Minack Theater which is further west. (Don't forget to wrap up and take something to sit on.)

Food & Drink

At Lombard Farm

breakfast

Orchard Yurt, Meadow Tipi and Orchard Cabin share an outside firepit in the garden, perfect for meeting new friends over toasted marshmallows. The Cabin has its own barbecue and deck, and electric hobs. There's even a vegetable garden and apple trees which occasionally provide some fine ingredients, the surplus from which you might find on the table in The Link. If you feel the need for some home comforts, The Link is a beautifully appointed space shared between the yurt and the tipi, a couple of minutes from each. Inside you'll find a fridge freezer each and a kitchen equipped with a toaster, kettle and microwave. It's also where you'll find a stock of games and books, a drying room for damp clothes (there's also a washing machine), washing up stuff and the loos. The whole of The Link has underfloor heating as well, making it a cosy place to curl up.

Lombard has over 5 acres of meadow for picnics and games and beautiful walks from your doorstep to the river and National Trust woods.

For the basics

There is a small shop at the campsite at Bodinnick, which is open around breakfast and teatime, good for the essentials and about 15 min walk or 5 min drive.

If you are planning some healthy eating you could arrange for an organic 'veg box' from Riverford Farm which is delivered on a Friday. Owners Suzi and Patrick can recommend the quality of their fruit and veg. If you do order from Riverford, ask them to leave the box with your name on it in The Link, or it might end up in the house!

A few other shopping options

The nearest larger shops are in Fowey and the best way to get there, if you are not in a rush, is to walk or drive to the car park at Bodinnick and take the ferry, then walk into Fowey.

harbourside

There is a small village shop and post office in Lerryn, a pleasant village on the banks or the river, (grid reference 140570). The shop sells papers, food, wine and a good cream tea.

There is a medium sized co-op supermarket in Lostwithiel, (grid reference 106598). If you are looking to do the 'weekly shop' there is a Tesco at Holmbush (grid reference 038526) on the way to St Austell or a Morrisons by the Liskeard bypass (grid reference 642592).

There are fortnightly farmers markets in Lostwithiel and several farm vegetable stands nearby. Churchtown Farm, 01726 870375 fifteen minutes away by car, sells delicious organic beef from the farm.

The fishing port of Looe, about 20 minutes drive away has plenty of fresh fish shops.

The local pub is the Ferry Inn at Bodinnick, a twenty minute walk away or a five minute drive. It has a good atmosphere and pub food with a superb view down the river from the outside seating. The Ship Inn at Lerryn is a 15 minute drive, with good food and close by the river. There are also good local pubs in Fowey.

Fowey has an excellent selection of pubs and restaurantsto suit all tastes and pockets.

You are spoilt for choice for places to eat - whatever you fancy, there is something that will fit the bill. From fine dining in one of the exclusive hotels to relaxed bistros, pubs and quirky cafes offering glorious home made cakes; we have them all. With delicious pasties, traditional fish and chips, freshly made sandwiches and coffees available to take away, you may just want to find a spot overlooking the river and relax. You will find many eateries will have menus using the best of fresh, local produce with, of course, plenty of seafood.

There are also good pubs which serve food at Lerryn, Lostwithiel, Pelynt and Golant.

Meet your hosts

Meet Suzi & Patrick

Lombard Farm, having previously been lovingly nurtured and developed by the Collin family, was taken over in January 2017 by Suzi & Patrick. They are now at the helm, with their 3 daughters Elizabeth, Katie and Charlotte, plus Buck, the Romanian rescue terrier!

Patrick is originally from Newport South Wales, the youngest of nine. An engineer at heart, he spent 13 years in the British Army, working for some time with the Army Air Corps then leaving to study for an MBA and to work in London. He has spent the last 20 years dreaming of leaving the city life behind him and has finally succeeded (well, not quite permanently yet!). Suzi was born in London’s East End and worked in the media industry before marrying Patrick and having their daughters. She’s hoping to rekindle her love of throwing pots on a wheel!

Elizabeth has just started a sociology degree at St Mary’s Twickenham – she loves ballet and snuggling with good book.  Katie is in the final throes of her A Levels and is hoping to go on to study costume construction next year – she too loves ballet and playing around with the sewing machine. Charlotte is studying for her GCSE’s and loves wolves and Buck the terrier is one of her best buddies – busy times ahead!

Last but not least is Linda Shabtai; a very special lady who is running Lombard Farm when Patrick and Suzi aren't around. Linda has a huge amount of local knowledge and if she doesn’t know the answer to your question, she’ll find someone who does! You'll want to take her home with you!

Wildlife & the environment

Sustainability has always been at the heart of the project. Thousands of trees have been planted for both fuel and fruit. A fine vegetable patch and a potting shed have been built, a bore hole dug for the lovely fresh Lombard water, and two barns converted. More recently solar hot water for the farmhouse and guest’s showers and solar photovoltaic cells for electricityhave been installed.

Lombard Farm is in a small hamlet surrounded by other small farms and beautiful rolling hills and is within the Fowey River Valley AONB.

The farm sits in seven acres which are organically farmed, so there is plenty of wildlife. You will usually hear or see rabbits, beautiful barn owls, hedgehogs, numerous birds, bats and, if you are lucky, a dear or two, (usually nibbling at the newly planted trees!)

The farm is about four miles from the south coast, so on still nights you can hear the sound of breaking wa

wellies

ves on the coast and even ships navigating up the nearby river.

Your holiday at Lombard will be carbon neutral; wood burners for heating, pv for electricity, bore hole for water and solarhot water for showers and you can walk where you need to go! Suzi and Patrick also use eco friendly cleaning products and have full recycling facilities.

3. Changes and Cancellations by the Owner

We will inform you as soon as reasonably possible if the Owner needs to make a significant change to your confirmed Arrangements or to cancel them. We will also liaise between you and the Owner in relation to any alternative Booking offered by the Owner but we will have no further liability to you.

4. Complaints

Because the contract for your Booking is between you and the Owner, any queries or concerns should be addressed to them. In the event that you have any complaint about your stay, please notify the Owner as soon as possible. If you don’t follow this procedure there will be less opportunity for the Owner to investigate and resolve your complaint and so make your stay as enjoyable as possible. Delays may also mean that amount of compensation you may be entitled to may be reduced. Whether or not your complaint is dealt with satisfactorily, please also contact us as we appreciate all feedback. It’s important to us and the Owner to know that you’ve enjoyed your stay or if anything could have been improved.

6. Information & Accuracy

The information and prices shown on this website are varied from time to time and may change between the time you first view a property and make a Booking. You should check that all the details are as you expect prior to making a Booking. It is always possible that, despite our best efforts, some of the properties (including the features and extras available) may be incorrectly described and/or priced. If we discover this is the case after you have made a Booking, we reserve the right to contact you with details of the correct information and/or pricing and will give you the option to:

(1) proceed with the Booking based on the correct information and/or pricing, which may require the payment of an additional amount by you;

OR

(2) subject to availability, change your booking dates to dates when the pricing can be honoured ad so no additional charge to you. In the event that a lower price can be offered for alternative dates then the difference would be refunded;

OR

(3) cancel the Booking. If we do not receive your instructions within 5 days of contacting you, we reserve the right to cancel your Booking without liability to you.

7. Our Responsibility for your Booking

Your contract is with the Owner and its booking conditions apply. As Agent, we accept no responsibility for the actual provision of the Booking. Our responsibilities are limited to making the Booking in accordance with your instructions and acting properly in accordance with our legal duties as an Agent. We accept no responsibility for any information about the Booking that we pass on to you in good faith. However, in the event that we are found liable to you on any basis whatsoever, our maximum liability to you is limited to twice the cost of your Booking (or the appropriate proportion of this if not everyone on the Booking is affected). We do not exclude or limit any liability for death or personal injury that arises as a result of our negligence or that of any of our employees whilst acting in the course of their employment.

Unless you tell us otherwise, we assume that all members of your party are British citizens who hold or will hold full British passports valid for the entire duration of the Arrangements you chose to purchase. Information on visa, passport and health requirements, where given and applicable, is so given on this basis. 13. Group Bookings

Not all Owners accept Bookings for a single sex group (for example, a stag or hen party). Guests wanting to make such a Booking should check with us beforehand to enable us to check whether the Owner is prepared to accept the Booking. We will then advise you accordingly. In event that an Owner does not accept this type of Booking then it is with regret, that the Booking may be cancelled and cancellation fees may apply. It is the Guest’s responsibility to enquire with Canopy & Stars and/or check on our website beforehand to make sure that this type of booking is permitted.

14. Maximum Numbers

Most owners reserve the right to refuse admittance or revoke a booking if this condition is not observed and you are unlikely to receive any refund.

15. Your Responsibilities

Please note that you have a contract with the Owner of the property. As such you are under a responsibility to behave in a proper, appropriate and legal manner whilst staying at the property with due respect to the Owner, the Property and other guests and their property. You are responsible for informing the Owner of any losses or damage to the property as soon as possible. Please note that you will be liable to pay the Owner for any losses or damage to the property caused by you or a member of your party (except reasonable wear and tear). Some Owners will also require damage deposits. You must also leave the property by the check-out time specified on your booking. If any guest behaves inappropriately or improperly (of which the Owner will be the final judge on their Property), or illegally, the Owner reserves the right to ask the guest and their party (at their discretion) to leave the Property before the end of the holiday period and/or refuse any future bookings from you.  Any refund for so doing will be at the entire discretion of the Owner. In addition, the Owner reserves the right to sue the guest for any loss, damage or injury caused to the Owner, the Property or to other guests and/or their property. As agent, we will have no liability to you in these circumstances.
