Berridon Farm

Suitable for children of all ages

Not suitable for pets

Children are most welcome, pets cannot be accommodated

Day trips to the Devon coast, miles of fabulous hiking and a luxurious tent in a peaceful meadow to come back to

Berridon Farm, a small family farm in a gorgeous part of Devon, is a great place to while a week away. There are numerous attractions in the area, from The Eden Project to the secret beaches that you can find directions to in the welcome booklet, but there is also the joy of the farm itself. You can gather eggs straight from chickens, splash in the stream and swing on the tyre swings.

Have a pie ready for your arrival to bake in your wood-burning stove or fresh bread waiting for you in the on-site shop. Relax in the hot tub, enjoy the sunset from your veranda, cook outdoors on the campfire, then head up to the barn on Sunday morning for a cooked breakfast and the Sunday papers. If you're a group, think about using the barn for a convivial dinner - get the pizza oven lit or Jenny & David can cater for you.

The five tents at Berridon Farm are decked out, as is the whole site, with a vintage charm and a nod to the American frontier. There are antique chests of books, cow hides on the barn walls and postcards tacked all over the bathroom. The tents are made up of a double bedroom, a bunk room and a cabin bed. The kitchens have cold running water and each tent has a private flushing loo. The shared showers are gas powered, a five minute walk away and one of the units has a kid's bathtub too.

Our guests say...

Lovely stay at Berridon farm. Stayed for a long weekend, 4 adults & 2 kids. Great hosts that couldn't do enough for you and a lovely peaceful setting. Loved the pigs, goats and chickens - the kids particularly enjoyed picking the fresh eggs from the chickens in the morning. Although we had a few rainy days there was still plenty to do. Bude beach very close by with lots of little local shops, restaurants and pubs. Pizza oven at the farm was lots of fun - never cooked a pizza so quickly!

We had an amazing break from life. It was great to spend time as a family. Having no electricity is a bonus!

Claire

We had a great time at Berridon Farm. Everything has been put together with great care. Our three little boys shared the Trapper bed and woke each morning to take apples to the goats and pigs before enjoying fresh baked croissant and then off for beach adventures. We paddled beneath a waterfall in Tintagel, went rock pooling at Crackington Haven and enjoyed the stunning Duckpool beach. Returning back to camp we enjoyed beautiful campfires and toasted marshmallows, with chai tea in lamplight along with the amazing local sausages and then when the stars came out we all slept soundly in cosy beds. It was a picturebook stay of fresh air fun and relaxation.

"It was great. Beautiful setting and near to loads of great beaches. Good weather helped as well! There were no bad things about the stay. The best thing was being able to get away from the normal distractions and enjoy good family time together."

Matt

"We stayed in a safari tent on Berridon Farm. It was truly incredible. The tent was immaculate cosy interesting and very very comfortable.  The site had an excellent  climbing area for kids, chickens, goats and pigs in the same field. We had a gorgeous homemade pie on the first evening in the wood burning stove. We had a real campfire just outside our tent which was brilliant. The outside pizza oven was lit on weds night for the whole site to use if they wanted. It drizzled a bit that night ... but right next to the oven was a barn. It was awesome. It had table chairs and chandeliers! !!! The shower block was fantastic. Clean, very good showers and plenty of room. I really can't  fault this place at all. The attention to detail was second to none.  I would highly recommend staying here."

This happens hopefully three times a year and guests will be told when this is happening.
  • You might like to bring, take a deep breath: Torches, wellies, slippers, surf boards, sun hats, rain hats, knitting and a guitar
  • £60 per session for use of the wood-fired hot tub. The owners will show you how to set up and keep the tub going, but you may need to bring your fire-making skills! Book in advance with the owners either before arrival or during your stay
  • Sleeping arrangements
  • 1 double, 1 bunk room, 1 cabin bed

chickens at Berridon Farm

There is a shop on site selling essentials and a few luxuries. You can also pre-book a pie to bake in your wood-burning stove on arrival, or a breakfast pack. Sunday breakfast in the barn is an optional extra.

At the weekend, newspapers will be collected to allow you to have a lazy morning, and every morning fresh bread and croissants (if you ordered the previous evening) can be collected from The Pantry, the on-site shop. The Pantry also offers milk, drinks, food, essentials that may have been left at home and toys for children. Jenny & David work with local food producers to give everyone a taste of the south west. You'll find treats like beer, cider, chocolate, crisps and preserves.

Communal Barn

As well as being the location for breakfasts Jenny & David offer their barn for groups when they book the whole site and would like to have dinner together. You might like to have the pizza oven lit for your group or full catering can even be arranged if you don't fancy cooking. Corporate groups might even like to think about hiring the barn for the day.

Meet your hosts

Sheep at Berridon Farm

Berridon Farm is a small 50 acre family run farm and the cabin tents are situated in an eight acre field, set into a strip of ancient woodland. David and Jenny bought this field because it borders their lane and decided to put camper in rather than cows. Guests share the field with a flock of chickens (you can help yourselves to eggs), two goats and a flock of sheep.  There is also a pig paddock where there may be piglets. Three large oaks sit in the field and host a few tyre-swings and the treehouse fort! The farm is on a footpath to Bradworthy village offering a gentle stroll through countryside to buy papers or to the pub.

The farmland borders the local Forestry Research Berridon Woods with acres of woodland to play in. The North Devon biosphere is a short car ride away. The infrastructure of the tent field was designed to be low impact on the pasture. The drainage system for the tents is a bio digester and where possible all waste is recycled or composted. No cars are allowed to drive across the field where the tents are situated, with wheelbarrows provided for guests to deliver their luggage to their tent  A key factor is that the tents do not have electricity, light is given with oil lamps and candlelight. Heat is via the wood burning stove. This lack of electricity encourages a slower pace of life.

Booking Terms

Canopy & Stars low price promise

Book with us in confidence knowing you won’t find that place cheaper elsewhere. All of the prices we display are set and matched by our Owners. (In this world of foreign currency, we do have to say 'subject to exchange rates' for some of our European places.)

What does ‘from price’ mean?

Our ‘from price’ is based on a four night stay in low season and designed to help you to compare different prices across our collection. Some of our Owners vary their nightly rates and check in days throughout the year, so it may differ from the rate quoted below the calendar. It is quite common (although by no means universal) for places to charge a little more in peak season or for shorter stays, to cover changeover costs. Consider booking longer stays during the cooler months if you’re looking for the lowest nightly rates.

15. Your Responsibilities

Please note that you have a contract with the Owner of the property. As such you are under a responsibility to behave in a proper, appropriate and legal manner whilst staying at the property with due respect to the Owner, the Property and other guests and their property. You are responsible for informing the Owner of any losses or damage to the property as soon as possible. Please note that you will be liable to pay the Owner for any losses or damage to the property caused by you or a member of your party (except reasonable wear and tear). Some Owners will also require damage deposits. You must also leave the property by the check-out time specified on your booking. If any guest behaves inappropriately or improperly (of which the Owner will be the final judge on their Property), or illegally, the Owner reserves the right to ask the guest and their party (at their discretion) to leave the Property before the end of the holiday period and/or refuse any future bookings from you.  Any refund for so doing will be at the entire discretion of the Owner. In addition, the Owner reserves the right to sue the guest for any loss, damage or injury caused to the Owner, the Property or to other guests and/or their property. As agent, we will have no liability to you in these circumstances.

17. Discrepancies
