The Hatch - Cabin in Worcestershire, United Kingdom

Last cache: 14:28:43, Sunday 24 September 2017

Suitable for children of all ages

Not suitable for pets

Children are very welcome at The Hatch, but unfortunately pets cannot be accommodated.

An eclectic and colourful cabin. Relax, get creative, or just read a good book...

The Hatch Cabin is as eclectic as the Hatch is as a whole. Creatively and colourfully decorated by Ben and Nada with art, quirky objects, fabrics, rugs, comfy cushions for afternoon lounging, the odd musical instrument and fresh flowers from the garden, it's a cosy and homely space. Perfect for a group of friends, for a family happy to just hang out, or even as a romantic retreat. It's all quite informal: the four bunks, double futon and all sorts of other sleeping scenarios make for a flexible escape – as one would expect at The Hatch. Even though it's relatively close to the main house, it feels very private and peaceful. The views from its own little garden in the meadow are lovely. You'll see tiny marsh tits in the morning, woodpeckers almost every day and owls in the evening. The secret summerhouse a short stroll away is an unusual annexe. Outside there's a big, covered veranda designed for late afternoon lounging or a sunset BBQ.

A few steps away is your private kitchen and bathroom. The Hatch Cabin, while not remote, does feel like a little sanctuary. On your doorstep are 35 acres of rolling hills, ancient woodland, orchards, gardens and lake. Wildlife and walks are all around and so there's plenty of room to roam. Relax, dream, wander, stargaze in the unpolluted sky, or just read a good book.

Hen Parties: Book both The Hatch and The Damson Cabin with its outdoor space (5 min walk) for a hen do with a difference for up to twelve guests. See 'Activities' for some extra entertainment: falconry, crafts, jam making...

Our guests say...

The location was absolutely stunning. The owner was also very welcoming and gave us a lot of helpful local information. The property had everything we needed. It was great to be able to have a barbecue on the wooden patio looking out across the countryside. The shower was basic but functional. The owner was also very relaxed in allowing us to explore the property and local area freely. Really beautiful with lots to do locally. The kitchen was very well stocked with condiments and equipment and the towels, soaps etc were great.

Katie

We had a wonderful weekend, a perfect mixture of wild adventure and relaxation. The Hatch was lovely, very comfortable and very nice touches of fresh flowers in all the rooms. The owners were very friendly and welcoming. We had booked 3 nights Fri-Mon but as we couldn't stay the Sunday night (kids were back at school on Monday) they allowed us to stay the Thursday night. The kids had a fantastic time just running around and exploring, and we felt comfortable allowing them to do this. My son was very sad to leave, and hadn't missed the TV or wifi at all!

Jill

Fantastic stay with family & friends, good food, company & happy times. Lovely, friendly hosts in a beautiful location. All aided by the gorgeous sunny weather which certainly helped. A great escape from the rat race.

Cameron

It was excellent. The Hatch is an amazing get away and beautiful setting!! Its my favorite place to go!!

26/10/2015

Sharon

I had the best hen weekend I could have wished for. The place was perfect and exactly what I hoped for if not better. I could have stayed there for ever!

19/06/2015

Louise

"We really enjoyed our stay, weather was surprisingly good for October. Hosts left us to it which we liked. Cosy at night and nice touches with the candles, towels and everything you would need in a self catering kitchen"

10/10/2014

Claire

"It was magnificent."

11/08/2014

Luke

"The location is absolutely beautiful and we had a lot of fun. The beds in the cabin are very comfortable and the cabins are decorated in a charming style."

18/07/2014

Vicki

"It was magical! There were 14 of us and Dani at the Hatch cooked us an incredible vegetarian meal on the Saturday night. She and Robyn were so welcoming and warm and friendly. We truly had the most fantastic time and the cabins (Hatch and Damson) had everything we needed for the perfect weekend away with friends. We will go back time and time again..."

04/07/2014

Cressie

"We had a brilliant weekend.  We were a hen party of 6, and the Hen had a very special weekend.  And couldn't believe we'd managed to find such a pretty and idyllic place and stay on budget!"

20/06/2014

Annie

"Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Party of 6, 2 adults and 4 children aged between 4 and 9. Kids loved being able play outside until dark then roast marshmallows in the open fire. They also loved the bunk beds and that they were invited to feed the animals. The adults loved having no TV or electronics and happy, tired children at the end of the day. The cabin was also conveniently situated for trips into Tenbury and Ludlow."

13/06/2014

Krissy

"Fantastic it was just what we wanted, lovely and peaceful surrounded by beautiful meadows and orchards, with no noise from the traffic. Heaven."

12/06/2014

Jane

"Great 3 days, setting was beautiful, Dani was fantastic, the boys enjoyed feeding the farm animals, very very lovely."

20/04/2014

Chris

"We really enjoyed our stay.  Best glamping yet – and we are experienced glampers.  The Hatch was warm, comfortable, well equipped, clean.  The view across the fields was vast, so my children could run free and play with the cows whilst I still had an eye on them.   I would sit and read a book by the fire whilst my boys crafted swords out of sticks – very relaxing.  Dani introduced us to the goslings, and Robin told us stories of the farm and the local area.  I would fully recommend The Hatch to any family wanting a wholesome, relaxing (or energetic if you want to climb the hills) holiday. We hope to return."

19/04/2014

Adeline

"The place and the setting was beautiful. We had relaxing time being surrounded by animals and nature."

18/04/2014

Taeko

"We all loved it. Very sad to leave. Such beautiful views, absolute silence apart from birds tweeting. Cabin was very cute and quirky and left feeling very chilled. Pure bliss :) "

26/05/2013

Melody

"It was perfect.  Idyllic and magical, the children (four and six) were able to roam freely through the meadows and trees. Best thing: the setting was stunning and perfect for us and the children.  Worst thing: nothing."

24/05/2013

Julia

"Yes we enjoyed our stay, We were celebrating our anniversary and we had a relaxing time.  We chose this location as it was not too far to travel from home.  It was a little 'different', it was a real taste of Bohemian living.  A great place for families with young children.  All in all a peaceful rest away......"

22/05/2013

Andrews

"It was amazing! On arrival the girls fell in love immediately. The welcome was very warm and everyone was really approachable. The beds were so comfortable (and we are fussy sleepers!). Can't fault any part of it. The best weekend ever."

26/04/2013

Gillian

"Loved it! Kids were in heaven, owners were lovely, views magnificent, weather kind and fresh eggs from the farm.....best ever!"

01/04/2013

Tracey

"I thought the facilities for a "glamping" holiday were first rate - nice hot shower and we made some gourmet meals in the kitchen. The worst thing was that we only had 2 days!!"

17/11/2012

Alisha

"We had a fantastic stay in The Hatch and the Damson.  The cabins were booked for my 30th birthday and I couldn't have wished for anything better.  The owner was delightful, very helpful and friendly, the location was beautiful and the cabins were exactly what we were looking for; different and a bit kitsch!  I would recommend both cabins for groups of people looking for a fun weekend away.  My only advice would be that two days is not enough!"

09/11/2012

Aileen

"The place was so tranquil and peaceful, it had everything you needed. We were surrounded with trees and flowers and rolling hills, we did many things: played cards, went on walks, played board games, used the gramaphone, had a bbq, watched the rabbits in the morning, played tennis. I was worried that some teenagers in the group would get bored but it was quite the opposite. We had a really good time, we will definitely be going again next year."

22/10/2012

Stacey

"We hired the Damson Orchard and Hatch Cabin for a long weekend with a group of fifteen excitable girlfriends and hosted the best mini boutique festival we could have imagined.  The site is wonderful and all the accommodation (cabins and yurts) far exceeded all our expectations. I would be delighted to recommend to anyone!"

05/10/2012

Victoria

"The cabin, kitchen, bathroom were clean and prettily decorated. The covered decking for eating was amazing, and we spent most of our time outside even when raining because of this space. The surrounding area was beautiful. Best of all was just how relaxing it was, having bought food and drink for the weekend there was no need to leave, we walked, played tennis and danced a lot."

29/06/2012

Davina

"Best thing was the beautiful setting & toasting marshmallows on the fire pit . . .  Worst thing, having to go out at nighttime to the loo!!"

18/05/2012

Sue

"It was absolutely glorious. A wendy house for grown-ups with a wonderful bank of fresh flowers to keep the bees buzzing nearby."

02/07/2011

Lucy

"The Hatch was beautiful. Well looked after, lovingly set out and the veranda was a surprise that we were not expecting and allowed us to have a place to hold our afternoon tea party"

23/04/2011

Heather

“What special memories we have to cherish from The Hatch. It’s so beautiful and surreal. The view over the flourished green valley, the wild flowers. The attention to detail is what I will remember most. The fresh cut flowers, the lanterns, the decorative pine cones, the interior design just creates such a retreat feel. Thanks for making our weekend special.”

24/09/2010

Claire

"We have woken up to another glorious morning and almost cannot bear to leave this beautiful little spot. We have camped in the best campsite ever, seen the stars, eaten delicious vegetables and played to our hearts content. We’ve had a wonderful time, thank you so much for giving us such a great end to the summer.”

Walking

Tenbury is a prime location for walkers. Situated on the borders of Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Shropshire and close to the Welsh Marches it offers the chance to explore some of the finest scenery in the country. The area also gave inspiration to some of the world’s leading writers and artists. There is information available at the library and maps and books for purchase at Books Books Books and at the Tourist Information Centre in Teme Street.

The Tenbury Walking Weekend

This takes place early in May every year and a choice of guided walks is available. Full details can be obtained from the TIC and on the website. There are lots of walks, some of which are led and others allow you the freedom of self discovery. Please follow the Country Code and only use the official rights of way, details of which are available at the TIC, the Library and Books Books Books.

Take to the trees at Go Ape!, in the nearby Wyre Forest. Find your inner primate and experience Tarzan swings and zip wires!

Festivals & events

Tenbury plays host to many events throughout the year. Tenbury In Bloom transforms the town during the summer when nearly every building is adorned with flowers. Tenbury has had a long association with apples and is often described as The Town in The Orchard. Tenbury holds an annual Applefest which takes place in October.

Festivals going on nearby include Ludlow Castle and food festival, Mosley Folk Festival and Malvern Festival. Nozstock and Hay on Wye festivals are also possible to visit from The Hatch. Then there are the numerous local village fetes and fairs.

Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire are the three main growers for mistletoe in the UK. There are over 100 varieties and Tenbury is famous for its Mistletoe auctions that take place in December. The annual Mistletoe Festival also takes place at this time, incorporating music, storytelling and the Mistletoe procession.

The Tenbury Countryside Show takes place at the beginning of August. (Local livestock show and country pursuits). This show has now expanded to being one of the major agricultural events in the West Midlands being the home for the national Hereford cattle competition.

Applefest has now become a regular event in Tenbury in October each year. The apple is celebrated in all its forms, including cider. Keep an eye out for further details.

The Martin Homer Painting & Pottery Summer School has been running for over 20 years and is located just 2 miles from Tenbury at Aston Bank. The courses attract people from all over the world who enjoy the unique atmosphere of the Teme Valley. The pottery and painting studios are situated in the barn and hop kilns attached to the house. The Lower House is an attractive seventeenth century farmhouse set in a large interesting garden for your perfect pottery or painting holiday.

If you like motor racing, visit Shelsley Walsh Speed Hill Climb, said to be one of the oldest and most popular hill climbs in the UK. The course is in the heart of the Teme Valley and well worth a visit. Check their website for race dates.

Food & Drink

Eating at The Hatch

Of course, a big part of The Hatch experience is cooking for yourself. In The Hatch Cabin you'll find cookie and cake making utensils, plus there's the BBQ outside and fire pit for toasting marshmallows.

Pubs & Restaurants

The Bell at Pensax (3.5 miles). A great pub for local ales. The Bell has won many prizes for the beers and serves good local food.

Ludlow is food heaven. As well as being great for events and festivals, there's the fantastic farmers' market and plenty of opportunities to nibble and sample local delights.

No trip to Worcestershire is complete without sampling a cider. Robinsons has been made in Tenbury for the past 200 years.

Rochford Meats at Stanford bridge is an excellent farm shop which stocks many local foods. The Keysell Family have been farming in Rochford since 1921. Their 90 acre farm has produced fruit, beef, lamb, pork, cereals and other things over the past century. Now they concentrate on rearing livestock in a traditional way, to produce delicious meat that they sell at Farmers' Markets. Andrew butchers all the meat himself as well as helping Jim, his dad, with the farming.

Meet your hosts

Hundreds of years ago, The Hatch was the last farm before entering the Forest of Wyre; a gateway to the territories governed by 'forest law'. This is how the place got its name. Discovered as a ruin by Robin Salmon and his mother Patricia in the mid-1950s, the cluster of buildings sits in its own quiet nook of rolling countryside. It took hold of their hearts, and has since been home to four generations of the family. Today Robin’s son Ben and his wife Nada live nearby with their two young children, while Dani is on site to welcome guests to The Hatch Cabin and Damson Cabin.

Set in a valley of such biodiversity, Nada and Ben are hoping for The Hatch to become a Site of Special Scientific Interest through the ‘Natural England’ scheme.

The Hatch is registered as a WWOOF host, which means that throughout the year there are visits by volunteers who come from all over the world to help out on the farm and in the garden, creating a lively and inclusive atmosphere.

Environmental Policy

Each bunk has its own solar-powered reading light. Ben and Nada are avid recyclers and have compost/bottle/glass/plastic bins.

Wildlife

There really is an abundance of wildlife here, thanks to the presence of ponds, woodland and wildflower meadows: it’s a rich ecosystem, providing a haven for the insect population, which of course lays the foundation for a broad range of creatures higher up the food chain.

In spring you're surrounded by blossoming fruit trees. There are close to seven hundred fruit trees including cider apples, perry pears, damsons, cherries, sweet apples, pears and plums. Come in September or into autumn to help with the harvest: season of mists, mellow fruitfulness - and fruity over-indulgence.

Getting there

The Hatch, Lindridge, Tenbury Wells, Worcestershire WR15 8JT

By car

The Hatch is off the A443 between Newnham Bridge and Abberley Hall. In the parish of Lindridge there is an Indian restaurant called The Nags Head and a sign-post to Frith Common. Take that narrow lane: The Hatch is the third drive on the left about 1/3 of a mile from the Nags Head. Go to the end of the drive, through the yard and The Cabin parking is on the left looking out over the meadow.

By train and then bus

Go to Worcester Forgate Street train station and catch the 758 bus from Crowngate bus stop nearby. Ask the driver to drop you at The Nags Head. It's about a 40 min bus journey and the last bus goes at 17:50. You can walk up the lane in 10 minutes.

When you arrive, knock on door of the red brick house!

Booking Terms

Canopy & Stars low price promise

Book with us in confidence knowing you won’t find that place cheaper elsewhere. All of the prices we display are set and matched by our Owners. (In this world of foreign currency, we do have to say 'subject to exchange rates' for some of our European places.)

What does ‘from price’ mean?

Our ‘from price’ is based on a four night stay in low season and designed to help you to compare different prices across our collection. Some of our Owners vary their nightly rates and check in days throughout the year, so it may differ from the rate quoted below the calendar. It is quite common (although by no means universal) for places to charge a little more in peak season or for shorter stays, to cover changeover costs. Consider booking longer stays during the cooler months if you’re looking for the lowest nightly rates.

Not all properties accept pets. If you wish to take your pet on holiday, please advise us before booking and we can check whether pets are accepted at the property. You must obtain the prior consent of the Owner before taking any pets to the property. A nightly charge may be made by the Owner for each pet and additional terms may apply.

9. VAT

Many of the Owners of properties in the Canopy & Stars portfolio are not registered for VAT in which case no tax is payable. Where VAT is payable, the tax is included in the advertised holiday rental price.

10. Visa, passport and health requirements.

Unless you tell us otherwise, we assume that all members of your party are British citizens who hold or will hold full British passports valid for the entire duration of the Arrangements you chose to purchase. Information on visa, passport and health requirements, where given and applicable, is so given on this basis. Requirements may change and you are therefore strongly recommended to check the up to date position with the Owner of the Booking, Passport Office, appropriate embassy or consulate or your doctor as applicable in good time before the commencement of your holiday.

11. Insurance

You are strongly recommended to take out personal travel insurance for all members of your party. It is your responsibility to ensure that the insurance you purchase is adequate and appropriate for your particular needs. Please read your policy details and take them with you on holiday.

12. Special requests

If you have any special requests (for example dietary requirements, cots or room location), please let us know at the time of booking. We will pass on all such requests to the Owner, but unfortunately, we can't guarantee that they will be met and we will have no liability to you if they are not.

13. Group Bookings

Not all Owners accept Bookings for a single sex group (for example, a stag or hen party). Guests wanting to make such a Booking should check with us beforehand to enable us to check whether the Owner is prepared to accept the Booking. We will then advise you accordingly. In event that an Owner does not accept this type of Booking then it is with regret, that the Booking may be cancelled and cancellation fees may apply. It is the Guest’s responsibility to enquire with Canopy & Stars and/or check on our website beforehand to make sure that this type of booking is permitted.

14. Maximum Numbers

Please note that except by prior arrangement confirmed in writing, only the number of persons specified on a booking confirmation may occupy  a property. Most owners reserve the right to refuse admittance or revoke a booking if this condition is not observed and you are unlikely to receive any refund.

15. Your Responsibilities

Please note that you have a contract with the Owner of the property. As such you are under a responsibility to behave in a proper, appropriate and legal manner whilst staying at the property with due respect to the Owner, the Property and other guests and their property. You are responsible for informing the Owner of any losses or damage to the property as soon as possible. Please note that you will be liable to pay the Owner for any losses or damage to the property caused by you or a member of your party (except reasonable wear and tear). Some Owners will also require damage deposits. You must also leave the property by the check-out time specified on your booking. If any guest behaves inappropriately or improperly (of which the Owner will be the final judge on their Property), or illegally, the Owner reserves the right to ask the guest and their party (at their discretion) to leave the Property before the end of the holiday period and/or refuse any future bookings from you.  Any refund for so doing will be at the entire discretion of the Owner. In addition, the Owner reserves the right to sue the guest for any loss, damage or injury caused to the Owner, the Property or to other guests and/or their property. As agent, we will have no liability to you in these circumstances.
