A far eastern garden in the Brecon Beacons, home to a wholly original style of yurt...

Waterfall Pagoda Yurt has grown up out of its surroundings, the waterfall setting giving it a zen-like tranquility in this beautiful corner of the Brecon Beacons National Park. John and Mary designed and built the structure entirely by hand, using natural mosso bamboo for the framework, calico and quilt for the lining, and with the benefit of all their years of experience adapting traditional Mongolian yurts to the Welsh climate. This means it's warm, dry and cosy, yet cool on summer days. The interior is a fusion of styles: Japanese 'noren' fabric hangings, lacquered furniture, and a big comfy bed. Next to your sumptuous pagoda-style yurt is your own private ‘yurtmobile’; with the roof of a Japanese tea house and two friendly dragons outside, it holds a kitchen with full gas oven, microwave and a fridge/freezer; a shower, washbasin and a clever Swedish Separett loo.

You are tucked away in the trees on the other side of the walled garden next to a little gorge with a brook running through it. There's a deck overlooking the brook for al fresco breakfasts. You're quite close to the main buildings, so have nearby parking and level access, but your own privacy too. The area abounds with historical and cultural places to visit and the lovely town of Llandeilo is just a stroll away. It has some lovely independent shops and a wealth of places to eat serving everything from fish & chips to finer fancy fare.

Our guests say...

What a wonderful little secluded oasis. Waterfall pagoda yurt had everything we needed and is such a beautiful space.

We had a fantastic week staying in the Waterfall Pagoda Yurt. Exceeded all of our expectations - extremely comfortable, practical and relaxing. The local area had plenty of walks, castles, pubs and shops to keep us busy.

What a wonderful time we had in the beautiful waterfall yurt. The surroundings of the zen garden are absolutely beautiful, and the noise of the waterfall was so calming to listen to! Very welcoming hosts, and so useful having the store shed to buy extra supplies from, and we purchased some homemade jam as a souvenir! Llandeilo is a fantastic place to visit, with many scenic places to see, we particularly enjoyed Dinefwr Castle. The yurt is so lovely and cosy, with the most comfortable bed ever. We'd be back in a heartbeat!

it was really beautiful, so clean and comfy, and stunning location. super friendly hosts too.

It was wonderful. The yurt and facilities were fantastic, the location was tranquil and stunning. We loved every moment, we could have stayed longer.

An amazingly relaxing and private break, lovely friendly hosts that were there if needed but let us get on with our retreat. Also so much to do and see in the local area, I'm looking forward to going back!

We had an amazing stay the Yurt was much more than expected. Loved the log burner, comfy bed and Japanese garden with waterfall spilling over in the background. We were left to completely unwind. Visited local gardens and beaches. Highly recommend this style of holiday.

It was absolutely lovely. The owners were lovely and allowed us our privacy, the accommodation itself was beautiful and the facilities were clean and well kept. I would definitely visit again and recommend it.

Truly amazing. The yurt is beautifully designed and very spacious for two people. The bed is huge and soooooo comfortable. The surrounding landscaped Japanese garden makes the space feel very inviting and relaxing and, despite being close to the main access to the property, it is very private. The yurtmobile is well equipped, with everything you need and the stream and waterfall running alongside add a real Zen like quality to the place. Hosts were excellent, with a well stocked store room for essentials and treats and allowed us to meet their lambs (who were so adorable!) Cannot fault it at all and would definitely go back.

The stay was was perfect for us and was as relaxing as we expected with a warm welcome and everything ready on our arrival

Me and my partner had an amazing time. The yurt was so cosy and got surprising warm inside, seen as though we went in October. You felt so of the beaten track and alone (in a good way) while being close to a lovely town. Would definitely go again and use the canopy and stars website again.

Although I had an unfortunate start to my break and got lost the yurt was idyllic, facilities spotless and the breakfast five star.

Driving through the foothills of the Brecon Beacons to get to Llandeilo was an amazing experience and really got us in the mood for a cosy adventure. We were greeted quickly by Cass and her family who quickly led us to the yurt and out of the torrential rain! The rain didn't bother us at all though, as having such a brilliant place to snuggle up in made for an amazingly tranquil time. The yurt is decorated in an absolutely gorgeous way; evoking a Japanese house and garden. The waterfall balcony was spectacular, and dipping in the stream even more so. Having a separate kitchen in the yurt mobile meant we could cook any meal we fancied, though the best thing was most definitely the damson jam from the honesty shop! Llandeilo is an easy walk away; and is a wonderful little town full of great local shops, pubs and cafes. We would especially reccommend Heavenly - the famous desert and ice cream parlour. Dinefwr is also well worth a visit. The views from the top of the castle towers are far beyond the definition of stunning, while the "hidden tour" of the house was fascinating. A brilliant space to spend a holiday - ideal to retreat to after a long day exploring castles.

Absolutely beautiful location with many different places and things to see and do nearby. The Yurt was very cosy and comfortable but with plenty of space inside and out. The river running just below was also a big bonus. Overall a gorgeous and very inviting area, would definitely recommend.

Loved the yurt, really comfortable and location perfect for exploring the Brecon Beacons

Lovely big Yurt in an amazing location - everything provided to make our stay a perfect one.

The stay was amazingly peaceful, the tranquilty of the place made you feel like everything was right with the world. The host met us and showed us around and then left us to just enjoy our stay. So close to help and the local village but a world apart when you walked through your gate.

Brilliant - fantastic accommodation, very comfortable bed and cosy with the log burner, beautiful setting by the river, very relaxing.

Absolutely amazing accommodation - we felt relaxed and comfortable from the minute we checked in. The waterfall and Japanese garden are incredibly peaceful, and the yurt itself is fantastic - amazing interior, comfortable bed and cosy wood burner. I would definitely recommend this as a place to come and get away from it all - we didn't want to leave! The owners are lovely too :)

"Absolutely loved it! Really at one with nature but with the opportunity to take a hot shower and connected to the mains. Owners were lovely on welcoming and we were given our space and privacy, didn't bump into anyone the whole weekend"

"Stayed at the Waterfall Yurt and had a brilliant time. Set in a very private little courtyard the Yurt is absolutely beautiful - cosy with a super comfy bed and very efficient wood burning stove. The kitchen/bathroom trailer was only a few steps across from the Yurt and really well equipped. The owners are lovely and really helpful. After the initial 'induction' to the Yurt and facilities we were left to our own devices with the knowledge that we could find the owners easily if there was a problem. Plenty of opportunities for local walks and bike rides. Would definitely stay again and have already highly recommended to others."

"We had a lovely visit, a bit chilly at night and early morning, but the woodburner did a good job of keeping us cosy"

"Weather was sunny (which is always a good start), the Yurt was really beautiful and when it got chilly at night,  the wood burner was really effective.  The kitchen & bathroom were clean and well equipped and the Separett loo clean and without any smells etc. The clearing is shady and on hot summer days would be a cool oasis. All expectations fully met."

"It was extremely relaxing."

"A wonderful place with our own private garden, The yurt was better than we expected. It was nice sitting next to the wood burning stove at night, or outside listening to the waterfall. A little gem. Thanks"

Geroge & Sue

"It was so beautiful and peaceful; the perfect place to just relax and forgot about all the stresses of normal life! Lots of brochures in the yurt of all the local attractions and plenty of games and book to keep us occupied in the evening. Loved the fact that the yurt mobile was so close by and with a hot shower! Bliss.  We were far enough away from anything and anyone else to be totally detached, relaxed and alone, but close enough to know civilisation is there if you need it!"

"Could not have asked for more. So much care and attention had been put into every last detail. Every aspect of the yurt and garden was done to an exceptional standard. We had a wonderful week and are already planning to come back."

"Enjoyed walking in beautiful Brecon Beacon National Park, private siting of yurt within charming zen garden, yet easily accessible by car. Yurt itself brand new this year, beautifully crafted and fitted out. Charming extras like mini honesty shop in woodshed."

"We had a wonderful stay at the Waterfall Pagoda Yurt, our first booking with Canopy and Stars. The private yurtmobile with kitchen and hot water shower was superb and we loved the Japanese theme to the Yurt and private garden. It was cosy, romantic and well equipped. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this facility to others and in fact have already told our family and friends about it."

"We really enjoyed our stay in the Waterfall Yurt! Great to stay somewhere private and unique, not just another hotel room.  Mary gave us some tips for the fire and cooking etc then left us to it. Was good to know they were round the corner if we needed them, but we didn't."

"Our stay was fantastic from the moment we arrived. The Waterfall Yurt was beautifully furnished, has both heating and lights. The Yurt mobile was a fully equipped kitchen and bathroom, which exceeded all our expectations. A wonderful weekend away."

"Our stay was fantastic from the moment we arrived. The Waterfall Yurt was beautifully furnished, has both heating and lights. The Yurt mobile was a fully equipped kitchen and bathroom, which exceeded all our expectations. A wonderful weekend away."

"The location was fantastic and perfect for couples who want to not be disturbed and have their own little piece of paradise for a few days."

"We really enjoyed our stay. The yurt was lovely and the location was great. It was good fun to do something a bit different and the yurt helped make it a really memorable trip."

"Very much enjoyed our stay in waterfall yurt. The yurt itself is brilliant, and its surrounding area is beautiful. Our hosts had put thought into making sure our stay was very comfortable."

"We had a fab time, it was exactly as stated on the website.  Friendly owners and I was impressed on how clean and tidy it was [..] it was exactly as I imagined, the only thing was I didn't appreciate from the website how close it was to the main house.  Although saying that once we got used to it we felt very private and wasn't disturbed at all."

"It was a perfect escape to normal life. Yurt was clean and had everything we needed including all the firewood we wanted for the log burner which kept us cosy. They even thought of extras like extra bedding, lots of lights, spare candles etc. the little kitchen and bathroom hut was fairly basic and the separate loo took some getting used to, but it had everything you need to be self catering. Location was great, a short walk in to the lovely town, lots of pubs and takeaways and lovely walks straight on the doorstep, or short drive to lots of the sights. Perfect."

"We loved it! The yurt is in a lovely location and it was a lovely surprise for my boyfriend's Birthday. The website is great with true to life pictures, and booking is really simple."

"We very much enjoyed our stay! This is the most relaxing place we ever stayed in our lives! I would recommend it to anyone who's stressed and needs a break. The best thing about our stay was the relaxed atmosphere, the yurt itself and the furniture. The wood stove was amazing."

"We enjoyed our stay greatly, a beautiful compromise between my husbands love of camping and my love of comfort! Not only a lovely location to stay in, but lots of places of interest to visit too. The best thing for me was the proximity to the town of Llandeilo. For my husband, the wood burner in the yurt.  The worst thing was that the waterfall, although stunning, was very noisy. "

"The Waterfall Yurt was absolutely magical and completely exceeded my expectations.  Your own little piece of paradise on earth.  I would recommend it to anybody.  The weather was the worst!  However, the log burner soon warmed the yurt up making it really cosy even when it wasn't nice outside."

"Had a wonderful time, fell in love with this cosy little yurt. From stargazing, to having breakfast beside your own private waterfall, it's a perfect couples getaway."

"Absolutely amazing - would recommend (and have) to all our friends"

"Absolutely perfect. A small piece of heaven on earth. Idyllic location, private, romantic, perfect!"

Meet your hosts

A little history

Mary and John bought Ty Cefn Tregib in 1989 as redundant farm buildings and converted the main coach house and stable block themselves into a large family home. They then set about reclaiming and refurbishing the other buildings on the land. When all the children had left home, around fifteen years ago, they started operating as a B&B.

The yurt debate...

The yurts are a reasonably recent development but could have come about a little sooner. Some time around 2001, Mary saw one and was instantly smitten. She then spent a remarkably persistent six years convincing John that it was a good idea. Once the first yurt was up, it became an instant success and was soon followed by a second. Now John is thoroughly on board, and they've joined forces to create an incredible pagoda-style yurt of their own design. Cass, their daughter, added an Airstream to the mix and since then it's gone from strength to strength.

The reason Mary & John do so much to bring to people to Ty Cefn Tregib is because they feel so privileged to live in such a beautiful place and thoroughly enjoy sharing it with others. All the children have now settled back in the area with children of their own and everyone is involved with “Ty Cefn Tregib” in one way or another.

Wildlife & Environment

Ty Cefn Tregib is in an incredible location in the westernmost corner of the Brecon beacons National Park. Mary and John's land adjoins a woodland nature reserve (Tregib Woods) where there are deer, badgers and foxes aplenty. There are also Red Kites, Buzzards, and a wealth of other woodland and farmland birds. Ty Cefn Tregib is not off grid at present, but has been designed with a view to doing so. Use of the brook to generate hydroelectric power is currently under investigation.

Booking Terms

Canopy & Stars low price promise
Book with us in confidence knowing you won’t find that place cheaper elsewhere. All of the prices we display are set and matched by our Owners. (In this world of foreign currency, we do have to say 'subject to exchange rates' for some of our European places.)

What does ‘from price’ mean?
Our ‘from price’ is based on a four night stay in low season and designed to help you to compare different prices across our collection. Some of our Owners vary their nightly rates and check in days throughout the year, so it may differ from the rate quoted below the calendar. It is quite common (although by no means universal) for places to charge a little more in peak season or for shorter stays, to cover changeover costs. Consider booking longer stays during the cooler months if you’re looking for the lowest nightly rates.

Not all Owners accept Bookings for a single sex group (for example, a stag or hen party). Guests wanting to make such a Booking should check with us beforehand to enable us to check whether the Owner is prepared to accept the Booking. We will then advise you accordingly. In event that an Owner does not accept this type of Booking then it is with regret, that the Booking may be cancelled and cancellation fees may apply. It is the Guest’s responsibility to enquire with Canopy & Stars and/or check on our website beforehand to make sure that this type of booking is permitted.

14. Maximum Numbers

Please note that except by prior arrangement confirmed in writing, only the number of persons specified on a booking confirmation may occupy  a property. Most owners reserve the right to refuse admittance or revoke a booking if this condition is not observed and you are unlikely to receive any refund.

15. Your Responsibilities

Please note that you have a contract with the Owner of the property. As such you are under a responsibility to behave in a proper, appropriate and legal manner whilst staying at the property with due respect to the Owner, the Property and other guests and their property. You are responsible for informing the Owner of any losses or damage to the property as soon as possible. Please note that you will be liable to pay the Owner for any losses or damage to the property caused by you or a member of your party (except reasonable wear and tear). Some Owners will also require damage deposits. You must also leave the property by the check-out time specified on your booking. If any guest behaves inappropriately or improperly (of which the Owner will be the final judge on their Property), or illegally, the Owner reserves the right to ask the guest and their party (at their discretion) to leave the Property before the end of the holiday period and/or refuse any future bookings from you.  Any refund for so doing will be at the entire discretion of the Owner. In addition, the Owner reserves the right to sue the guest for any loss, damage or injury caused to the Owner, the Property or to other guests and/or their property. As agent, we will have no liability to you in these circumstances.

16. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

17. Discrepancies

In case of a discrepancy between these Agency Terms & Conditions and any other Canopy & Stars literature, these Agency Terms & Conditions shall prevail.
