On yer bike! Tear up and down dirt trails in and around the farm, taking in the green green grass of the Welsh countryside

Whether you're exploring the great outdoors on the saddle of a mountain bike or on the back of a surfboard, Caban Cader is a cosy and comfy base to come back to. You’re slap bang in the middle of some of the best biking trails and beaches, and there are miles of quiet country lanes, wooded bridleways and ancient drovers' roads to wander along while looking down on the Dyfi River, often with views of the Irish Sea.

The cabin’s floorboards were reclaimed from the old BBC studios and the walls are festooned with collected treasures. There’s a living area with a double sofa bed, a dining area and kitchen and the sleeping loft above has a double bed and a little window seat. There’s also a small bathroom with a hot shower and compost loo. Outside, you can build a fire and relax on the deck whilst plotting a trek to the pubs in Machynlleth.

Our guests say...

It was absolutely perfect and exceeded our expectations. It was the perfect get away. We just wish we had stayed longer.

We had a wonderful time staying at Caban Cader. The location was beautiful and perfect. The cabin itself was a real gem. It had everything that we needed and more. We were a family of 4 and the 2 children loved wandering around the farm land and down at the river. They even found a tree swing which they thoroughly enjoyed. It was a real peaceful and perfect break for all of us.

We had a lovely little break last weekend. We did one of the walks from the map and then sat outside on the terrace cooking our food on the fire pit in the sunshine for the rest of the day. What a lovely location - very well thought out and has everything you need for an escape. When arrived was a little dubious at being so close to other quirky places but actually every one has been thought through and has its own space so the only eyes you need to worry about are the sheep! really lovely time, we will be back

Fantastic, we all absolutely loved it ! Cabin, location, activity's in the area, close to wonderful beach, every thing was perfect

It was beautiful. The Cabin was really nice and was easy to get to. Clear signs are put up around the site to show you how to get to the Cabin. The owner emailed me a details the day before about the Cabin and surrounding areas which really helped get the most out of the weekend. I can't express how much I recommend staying there and I hope to go back. All the essentials were provided and the log burner kept us warm. The way it's decorated is homely, it's very pleasing on the eyes. We were lucky enough to get all types of weather, sunny on the first, snowed on the second and rained on the third. It was a peaceful get away and the site was easily accessible with no problems at all getting there. Daffyd emailed instructions explaining where the Cabin is as there's 3 or 4 on the site. It was an amazing experience and my best yet.

We have stayed at both Caban Coch and Caban Cader, and loved them both. Caban Cader is a lovely little cabin at the top of the field, with wonderful far reaching views - you can spend hours simply watching the change in weather. Caban Cader has two hob rings and a set of four for everything in dinnerware and cutlery, they also provide bedding and towels for two (so you just need a sleeping bag for four if you need to use the sofa bed). We wiled away the hours walking, star gazing, drawing, painting and playing board games. It i fantastically situated, within easy reach of mountains, forestry and the sea. It is still possible to get the cabin incredibly toasty in minus temperatures, with the aid of the stove.

We had an absolutely awesome snug weekend at Caban Cader. The cabin was super cute and beautifully kitted out. The location was stunning and there was lots of activities on hand although we pretty much stayed in and around the cabin because it was so nice!

We have just returned from a lovely 3 night stay with our 2 sons and 2 dogs and had a great time relaxing and exploring a part of Wales we have never visited before. The accommodation was great providing an idyllic base using a variety retro / recycled objects and furnishings to give it's own unique quirky identity.Dafydd was a great host who promptly sorted out our power supply and informed us of events going on locally. A great little haven to get away it all! Thanks for a fab time !

The weekend was just perfect! The location and accommodation were idyllic and we all had a truly special stay. Daffyd was a brilliant host - very helpful and the email with all the details before our stay was brilliant too.

Lots of character in the place, like a miniature house. Challenging with 4 bodies, but manageable. We all enjoyed the experience and would recommend to people looking for an escape into nature, away from the city life.

We stayed in the caban for two nights. Had a really relaxed time, explored a little but mainly stayed by the caban. Really enjoyed our stay. I'd like to go back again, stay for longer and explore the area better.

The place is gorgeous and daffyd and cerys have thought of everything you could need for a cosy getaway. Loved it so much I really didn't want to leave!

We had a wonderful time at Caban Cader. We spent two nights here with two young children and our dog - we all adored the cabin and the stunning location. The children enjoyed the nearby stream and the space to run and play games. We loved sitting in the sunshine watching them! We also had a brilliant day on the beach. It was idyllic!

We had an amazing two night stay at caban cader. We are both in our mid twenties and we took our puppy and it was a perfect first holiday for him. The cabin had everything you could think of and decorated beautifully. The field has lots of hidden treasures including a swing. All the other cabins were full but we never saw another sole and is really private. We wish we could have stayed longer and can't wait to go back. I perfect relaxing holiday in a beautiful part of Wales. Bonus of being only 30mins drive from the beach.

We had a wonderful stay at Caban Cader, the cabin was cosy and set in a stunningly beautiful valley looking out to the mountains. Our young daughters loved watching the lambs and going on mini adventures around the surrounding farm land. The owners were lovely too and helped with all our queries. I couldn't recommend a visit more highly.

Great stay, the cabin was brilliant, and we had the whole hill to ourselves as there was no one in the other cabin. Bit cloudy, but not so much rain, so managed to have a fire each night out the front of the cabin after we got the baby to bed.

We had a really magical weekend at Caban Cader. The cabin was beautiful, cosy and perfect for two. The views made it even more idyllic then expected and we spent the Saturday enjoying an amazing 14k hike around the valley! We will definitely recommend it to our friends!

Absolutely amazing . Two teenage boys no tv absolutely loved it , my two pugs loved running free and me and the hubby just liked to relax . The cabin is so cute and although small as everything you need and it's very cosy . Will definitely be going back !

We arrived in the wind & rain on a Friday night in January, it was wild! The Cabin is very cute & we loved the loft bed in particular. There was tea & sugar on arrival & some small cakes which was a nice touch- thankfully we'd brought milk. We didn't see the owner during our stay, I think maybe that's how it's supposed to be, but I'd have loved to have met them if only for 5 minutes - to ask about things in general. We didn't know the cabin information was contained in the leather music satchel which was hung up on a wall - we didn't feel comfy enough to mess with the decoration (!) But the second day curiosity ate my partner and there it was, everything we needed!! We spent our time touring the area in the car because of the weather. But we loved it, we got to see loads of places, just check out the reservoirs & lakes - The Happy Valley drive was exciting & we loved driving over the Toll Bridge to Barmouth, spying Cadair Idris in the mist & eating yummy home made cake at Murrays Café Bar in Barmouth. We even reached Snowdon - such a great drive out. Be aware, most places in Machynlleth are closed until 8th February, even the main hotel was completely closed!

It was our first glamping experience and an experiment to see if we would like it. We had no idea what we needed to take but after reading all of the information on the website, we were over prepared for every eventuality. The cabin was beautiful and decorated with very delicate and thoughtful accessories. The views were amazing. It was so peaceful. In fact we never saw another person the whole time we were on site - just animals. The cabin was warmed up lovely by the wood burner and even our reservations about a compost toilet were quickly forgotten as the bathroom was very clean. We spent our days at the Centre For Alternative Technology, in the local village of Machynlleth for the Halloween lantern walk, and by the sea in Barmouth. Our nights were spent by the camp fire playing card games with our two children. Our children cried when we had to check out.

Our stay was brilliant. The cabin was fantastic and the views couldn't be beaten. Lots of activities locally too

It was absolutely fantastic! As someone who is very proud to be Welsh, I love it when we find that there are fantastic little gems dotted around the country side in our country. Caban Cader was beautiful and comfortable. It was quiet and there weren't too many tents in one field so everyone had their space to run around.

Beautiful scenary and an excellent service and very concientious host/

We had a really lovely 2 nights at Caban Cader - the photos don't do the layout and comfort of this place justice. The cabin is perfectly organised and has everything you would need but condensed into a very sweet small space. Everything was wonderfully clean, and the interiors are beautiful. The owners clearly have fantastic taste. The view from the large deck is fantastic and a great place to enjoy your breakfast or a few beers. The surrounding area is great too - we would really recommend the Centre for Alternative Technology and a trip to the beach at Aberdovey. But there is ample space outside the cabin if you wanted to stay put.

For more leisurely cycling, the vast network of nearby quiet lanes & forestry tracks is ideal.

The beaches

Within half-an-hour you can be up a mountain, in a forest, squelching across moors, walking by rivers & waterfalls or along a beach or estuary.

Carreg Dressage

The farm next door can offer livery & guided rides for those who like to bring their horses on holiday. Meet your hosts

The valley, centred on the nearby market town of Machynlleth, is a designated United Nations Biosphere, recognising its unique environmental and cultural status. The area is an international leader in green thinking, home to the famous Centre for Alternative Technology for 35 years. In the shops and weekly market, just three miles away, you'll find fresh local produce and a friendly natter with the suppliers.

It’s a terrific town, picked by the Rough Guides as one of the thirty essential sights in Britain, with great pubs, cafes and restaurants, a lively social life, the gorgeous Wales Museum of Modern Art and superb commercial galleries and craft shops.

Machynlleth punches way above its weight, being the natural centre of Wales - the reason why fifteenth century Prince of Wales Owain Glyndwr chose it as his capital.

Booking Terms

Canopy & Stars low price promise

Book with us in confidence knowing you won’t find that place cheaper elsewhere. All of the prices we display are set and matched by our Owners. (In this world of foreign currency, we do have to say 'subject to exchange rates' for some of our European places.)

What does ‘from price’ mean?

Our ‘from price’ is based on a four night stay in low season and designed to help you to compare different prices across our collection. Some of our Owners vary their nightly rates and check in days throughout the year, so it may differ from the rate quoted below the calendar. It is quite common (although by no means universal) for places to charge a little more in peak season or for shorter stays, to cover changeover costs. Consider booking longer stays during the cooler months if you’re looking for the lowest nightly rates.
