Cabane de Salagnac Cèdre Blanc - Treehouse in Corrèze, France

Last cache: 10:29:00, Thursday 22 March 2018

Cabane de Salagnac

Suitable for children of all ages

Pets welcome

Children very welcome. Well-behaved dogs may also be accommodated.

One of several contemporary treehouses in 100 acres of beautiful woodland, with big views through the glass wall and a spa in the village

Working with the latest environmental technology, the six modern and low impact treehouses at Salagnac let you escape to the peace of the green woodland while staying connected to the outside world; you can build campfires in the meadow and picnic by the stream, then come back to a contemporary suite complete with TV and Nespresso machine. A big glass wall makes up one side of the living room, offering spectacular panoramic views over to the valley opposite and giving you the feeling of being fully immersed in the trees around you, even when you’re not sitting outside on the big terrace. The rest of the interior is stylish and minimalist, thanks to the owners’ interior designer daughter. There’s a shower room with chequered tiles, and a functional little kitchen unit (meal hampers can be delivered too) and the wood panelling both inside and out mean the cabins fit in with their wooded surroundings while still being distinctive.

When you arrive, it’s Christelle and Sébastien who will take you on a little walk through the woods to your treehouse, and Sébastien can later take you on a more comprehensive tour and show you how the trees are managed. Or explore the criss-crossing paths for yourself - follow the stream running all the way through and find the old watermill. The fantastic spa and restaurant in the local village are the perfect way to relax into your surroundings, or if you’re off doing something energetic (maybe wild swimming or even hang gliding?), order a tasty ‘goûter’ for when you get back.

**A returnable security deposit of €300 is payable to the owners on arrival. This does not go through Canopy & Stars**

Our guests say...

We had a fantastic stay- so peaceful that we didn't see another person for 24 hours, even on a 2 hour walk- possibly because it was low season. We arrived 2 hours later than intended as we had issues with our car & the owners waited for us and couldn't have been nicer, even though I'm sure they had better things to be doing with their time on a Saturday night. The cabane was perfect- had everything we needed and the beds were really comfortable. If you go, take time to enjoy the wealth of stars which are quite spectacular away from the sodium glow of big towns & we saw numerous shooting stars. Would recommend to anyone.

We stayed in the treehouse Cabane for 3 nights. Although we are a family of 5, we found the accommodation plenty big enough for us. It is an incredibly serene and quiet location with plenty of flora and fauna to explore and enjoy. The weather was ok and on the one particularly sunny day we took a beautiful circular walk from Correze and then spent the afternoon swimming and relaxing in the nearby lake. It was the perfect end to follow our two week camping holiday in Spain. The managers Sebastien and Christelle were incredibly helpful and they do a brilliant job of ensuring that you have everything you need to enjoy a great stay. I would highly recommend Cabane de Salagnac!

This is one of the most magical places we have ever been to. We woke up to 180 degrees of sunlight, green leaves and tranquility. We had the entire site to ourselves for a week. Breathtaking!

"Wonderful. The place was gorgeous and well-designed, deep in the trees on one side, yet accessible by a path on the side of the valley on the other. The hosts were very friendly and helpful, and they helped us book and cancel restaurants, carry our ridiculously large luggage etc. There was even wi-fi if you wandered up to the main hut. The valley we overlooked was ridiculously beautiful, with a trickling stream, horses and mushrooms, and we made an extensive fairy house what I'm sure is being enjoyed by all the Salagnac fairies right now. Thoroughly recommended."

"This was a WONDERFUL place - the well designed and ecofriendly cabins are positioned on the edge of a bluff, with a full window wall that looks out into trees. Clean, well organized, welcoming cabins! There are beautiful hikes through woods and meadows, with some grazing, friendly horses that welcomed our carrots. There is a castle nearby as a hiking destination. The caretakers, Sebastien and Cristelle, were very helpful and kind, helping us in English when our French was too limited. We went for a quiet unplugged weekend in nature, and it was perfect to listen to the breeze running through trees, the ripple of water in a brook. We photographed lots of local mushrooms and wildflowers."

"Very comfortable and just what we were looking for. Our hosts Christalle and Sebastien were very hospitable and were most helpful and informative about the area."

"We very much enjoyed our stay, a haven of peace in a lovely location, really fed the soul. The cabin / treehouse was really thought about and far better equipped than I had hoped for, the location beautiful and the hosts where very kind and welcoming.Even down to the lovely muffins and bubbles on arrival with stunning flowers. All was just wonderful."

You might get the chance to go for a walk with Sébastien, who can teach you all about the wildlife and woodland around you, including the ancient art of tree pruning as well as other practical aspects of woodland management.

You can arrange a massage on site with the team at the local spa. Or go to the spa itself for a seemingly unending list of relaxation and beauty therapies

Places to Visit

Stroll through the pretty neighbouring villages of Meyrignac l’Église, Saint Augustin (3km), Corrèze (5km), Chaumeil and Sarran

Visit one of the many spectacular waterfalls in the region - try Gimel, Tulle, Uzerche, Collonges la Rouge, Turenne, Curemonte, Brive...

Relax in the spa and restaurant at the neighbouring Domaine des Monédieres, or try your hand at pottery at the Atelier du Pénitent Blanc in Corrèze.

See the countryside from the water by taking a barge in the Dordogne at Argentat, or by canoeing in Vézère or Corrèze.

Outdoor & Active

Follow trail through the woodland and explore your surroundings on foot, by bike or on horseback. With enough advance notice, mountain bike hire can be arranged direct with your hosts. You can go walking on the downs of the Tourbière du Longeyroux or go swimming in the natural pools at Meyrignac, Chaumeil et Treignac. Adrenaline seekers can go hang gliding from the Monédières.

More information about what to do locally can be found on the Corrèze tourism board's website.

Meet your hosts

Marie-Claude and Georges Terrier, originally from Paris, discovered the Corrèze area of France in 1975 and in 1988 they bought their property and its surrounding 40 hectares of woodland in Salagnac. The property required a lot of restorative work - the manor had been left pretty much abandoned for almost 50 years!

Years later, one of Marie-Claude and Georges’ three children, Apolline (an interior designer currently running her own agency in Paris), felt so passionate about the place where she had always spent her holidays that she decided to build the six treehouses that stand on-site today. She chose their locations based on the sunsets and the proximity to the nearby stream! Apolline loves the treehouses  as if they were her children (well almost, after her son Victor of course!). Although Victor and Apolline both live in Paris they still visit Salagnac whenever they can.

On arrival at Cabanes de Salagnac, you'll be met by friendly Christelle and Sébastien who will lead you to your treehouse and answer any questions you may have.

Wildlife & Environment

Salagnac is a designated "Znieff" zone for its variety of wildlife and environmental interest. The 100 acres of woodland are criss-crossed by little paths, with a mix of trees, moss, ferns, moor and gorse, and several species of mushroom including ceps and chanterelles. A little stream crosses the land and as well as plenty of crayfish, you'll find the remnants of an old watermill with little millstream.

Getting there

Cabanes de Salagnac, Miers, 19800 Meyrignac l’Eglise, FRANCE

By public transport

The nearest train station is Uzerche (35 km), and Brive or Limoges are also accessible. It is possible to hire cars from any of these stations.

By car

If using SatNav, navigate to "19800 Corrèze" rather than 'Salagnac' which will NOT take you to the right place! Then follow directions below from Corrèze...

When you reach the village of Correze, take the road out of the village left towards Saint Augustin. When you get to the village of Roc Blanc, take another left towards Miers and Le Peuch. Go past the lake, take another left, still on the road for Miers and Le Peuch. When you get to Le Peuch, turn right toward Miers, and then take a right hand turn a little further on. Once you get to Miers, go down a track on the right and you'll see the reception after 50m.

Please note, a returnable security deposit of €300 is payable to the owners on arrival.

Booking Terms

Canopy & Stars low price promise
Book with us in confidence knowing you won’t find that place cheaper elsewhere. All of the prices we display are set and matched by our Owners. (In this world of foreign currency, we do have to say 'subject to exchange rates' for some of our European places.)

What does ‘from price’ mean?
Our ‘from price’ is based on a four night stay in low season and designed to help you to compare different prices across our collection. Some of our Owners vary their nightly rates and check in days throughout the year, so it may differ from the rate quoted below the calendar. It is quite common (although by no means universal) for places to charge a little more in peak season or for shorter stays, to cover changeover costs. Consider booking longer stays during the cooler months if you’re looking for the lowest nightly rates.
