Cabane du Lac - Cabin in Haute-Vienne, France
- Cabin for 2 from £70 per night (read our low price promise)
- One double bed up a loft ladder on mezzanine level and sofa bed in living area
Overview
The Cabane du Lac is an invitation to immerse yourself in the peace and culture of wonderfully rural central France. The converted boathouse sits on the shore of a 15-acre lake, with a deck just perfect for lying back and listening to the birds or firing up the BBQ for al fresco meals as the sun goes down. Inside the chic but cosy open plan space you’ll find a sofa and wood-burner as well as a modern bathroom and kitchen area with an induction hob. Up a fairly steep ladder and under the lowish ceiling is the double bed, but one of you can always choose the floor-level rope hammock just the other side of the stairs if you fancy a gently bouncing nap. Away across the lake from the deck you’ll see Zoe and Pete’s house, but you’ll hardly see them unless you’ve asked to join them for a wood-fired pizza or have one delivered to the cabin.
They’re also the people to speak to if you want to blend your relaxation with a little exploration. They love the area and, having lived here since 2011, can guide you to anything from historic chateaux to lively music events. The tiny Chateau de la Bregère is just up the road and ancient towns and villages are scattered through the hills. On Thursdays there’s live music at the evening market, a 5-minute drive away in St Yrieix la Perche, and a similar mingling of food and fun goes on at Segur le Chateau on Mondays. The former also holds a larger market known as a Foire on the 2nd and 4th Friday of every month, but if you miss the markets then the local village, a 10-15 minute walk from the cabin, can set you up with bread and cheese. What more, really, do you need? Aside from the region’s fine food and stunning scenery offering wild swimming and superb hiking, there are also some more unusual activities. Ask Zoe and Pete about panning for real gold, or hunting some of the so-called black gold, the area’s famous truffles.

Meet your hosts
Meet Zoe & Pete
Zoe and Pete have lived at 44 rue de Moissac full time since 2011, before that they lived in the Alps building chalets for 12 years, but have owned the place since 2003. The pair built their own house themselves in 2006 and renovated the boathouse (now the cabin) last year. Zoe and Pete have had friends and family to stay in the cabin since they've had it and during the various stages of its' renovation. They lived in it when they were building the house when their kids were teeny. As well as this, they run a woodwork building company. Zoe works in a local estate agents and decided to share a bit of what they've got here with like-minded people about a year and a half ago when they started renting out a self-catered apartment at their house. The cabin was the next step.
Wildlife & Environment
Cabane du Lac is in an area of countryside that hasn't changed much for a long time. The lake was created in the 1940s and has developed into a lovely mature area with open grassland and woodland and has a path that runs all the way round, which guests are welcome to walk. Zoe and Pete have regular visitors: heron, egret (big white heron), kingfisher, osprey, nightingale, woodpecker, bats, various types of owl, deer, hare and otter. They also have a compact waste water treatment system.
Our guests say...

Booking Terms
Canopy & Stars low price promise
Book with us in confidence knowing you won’t find that place cheaper elsewhere. All of the prices we display are set and matched by our Owners. (In this world of foreign currency, we do have to say 'subject to exchange rates' for some of our European places.)
What does ‘from price’ mean?
Our ‘from price’ is based on a four night stay in low season and designed to help you to compare different prices across our collection. Some of our Owners vary their nightly rates and check in days throughout the year, so it may differ from the rate quoted below the calendar. It is quite common (although by no means universal) for places to charge a little more in peak season or for shorter stays, to cover changeover costs. Consider booking longer stays during the cooler months if you’re looking for the lowest nightly rates.

The Owner may charge the cancellation or amendment charges shown in their booking conditions (which may be as much as 100% of the cost of the Arrangements and will normally increase closer to the date of departure). The Owner may charge cancellation or amendment charges in accordance with its own booking conditions, however for the sake of convenience only, we have outlined the Owner’s charges at clause 2.3 and 2.4 below. Because the contract for your Booking is between you and the Owner, any queries or concerns should be addressed to them. In the event that you have any complaint about your stay, please notify the Owner as soon as possible.
