Overview
If you ever built a den in the woods as a child, then this place is probably what you were imagining while you did it. Tree branches frame the four-poster bed and lead up to another branch covered with fairy lights as a chandelier. The brook provides a natural soundtrack and is a hunting ground for otters that live downstream with resident badgers and a host of wildlife found in the surrounding woods. You can explore adventurous cooking over the fire pit by the fallen oak or on the Cobb oven, but there’s also a hob indoors for quick cups of tea. The cupboard under the cabin is full of blankets that you can take to the circular stargazing platform, staying snug as you gently push yourself round, following the wheel of the night sky.
Linda and Phil created Den by the Stream to share their beautiful part of the world and draws on their recent past. Several years running a B&B in Italy has given them an eye for guests’ needs and a collection of Italian artifacts, some of which you’ll find in the Den, while the rest of the cabin is a brilliant combination of craft and reclamation. Copper bowls and handmade baskets are joined by recycled finds and creative repurposing, all in a space built from what the local land provides.
Charging points and solar lights are the only nod to modernity, with the gravity-fed shower heated naturally by compost and its warmth influenced by the outside temperature, a reminder that you're off-grid. Cardigan’s shops, boutiques and the huge sweep of the bay are only a short walk away if you need to drop back into civilisation, but the Den by the Stream is a place for losing yourself in the childlike dream of living wild in nature.

Meet your hosts
Meet Linda & Phil
After living in Italy for a number of years, Linda and Phil returned to the UK, settling at Garden Cottage in 2016. Phil renovates properties and makes wooden furniture, and whilst living in Italy, renovated a lovely old townhouse which they both ran a B&B from. Linda has collected many vintage Italian pieces, some of which have found their way into the cabin.
Linda and Phil live at Garden Cottage with Linda's mum and their two dogs. With Phil's experience and skill they built a bespoke cabin that fits seamlessly into its environment, sharing the beauty of their land, full of wildlife and birds, and the magical stream setting with guests.
Wildlife & Environment
Den by the Stream is secluded within its own 3 acres, with ¼ of an acre fenced off especially for those with dogs. The cabin is nestled next to a cascading stream called the “Nant Rhyd Y Fuwch” (stream for the cows), which you can hear inside your timber retreat. The cabin is completely off-grid and eco-friendly, built with lots of innovative design features. These include an en suite compost loo that uses sawdust scented with dried lavender grown at home, a shower that uses collected rain water, warmed through coiled tubing running through the garden compost and using gravity alone to reach the en suite bathroom. The toiletries are handmade and organic, enabling waste water to be re-used on the garden. The sun’s energy is used for power; cooking and keeping warm by the fire burning wood that fell just metres away and the cool water of the stream to keep food and drink chilled. The cabin has been handcrafted largely from materials that have been sourced directly from Linda and Phil's land, recycled from personally owned items or locally sourced materials.
In February and early March the banks of the stream are strewn with hardy little snow drops but a few weeks after, the bluebells are out in abundance and the banks become blue with a hint of vibrant green as the ferns begin to unfurl. Add the thrill that wildlife, including water voles, badgers, foxes and otters are living in such close proximity, it really brings home your closeness to nature. There are a huge variety of birds, including kites, buzzards and owls. Geese are a regular sight and fly directly overhead in their hundreds at the right time of year. Woodpeckers and many varieties of smaller birds, not seen so frequently in urban areas, are in abundance. A family of badgers live close by and otters have also be spotted, residents of the stream that the cabin resides next to.
Our guests say...
We had a wonderful time! The Den was cosy and very comfortable and very eco-friendly! The location was good for travelling around Ceridigion and Pembrokeshire. And the owners were very friendly and helpful.

The den by the stream exceeded all our expectations. It truly is a magical place in a magical setting. The location is perfect for exploring the nearby beaches. The hosts Linda and Phil were very friendly and accommodating, providing all the essentials and the most delicious homemade scones. Our two night stay was so peaceful and relaxing. I cannot recommend the den by the stream highly enough.

We had the most fantastic stay despite the weather, fudge the dog enjoyed the space he could run around in. Phil and Linda were the most welcoming hosts, the Den had everything we needed to relax and watch the world go by.

A couple of days away to get out of the rat race. I wanted to stay somewhere different, that we could take the dog to and to surprise my wife and I picked the perfect place! The Den by the Stream is in a lovely setting. The owners have thought of everything and our stay couldn't have been any better. Great just to chill out playing cards under the beautiful LED string lighting. Location is close to Poppit Sands which is great for walking the dog.

We had a wonderful stay in Den by the Stream, such an ideal setting and a beautiful cabin with great facilities with amazing attention to detail, especially in relation to ecology with composting toilet, compost heated shower and Cobb cooker. The cabin was private, perfect for a romantic weekend. The wood burner was very efficient! Although there was LED lighting it was very effective and sweet, especially around the four poster bed'. We had a laugh on the rotating star gazing platform and the fire pit was great addition as was the bench by the stream. The owners, Linda and Phil made special efforts to research our dietary needs. Definitely recommend it to friends... already have

Booking Terms
Canopy & Stars low price promise
Book with us in confidence knowing you won’t find that place cheaper elsewhere. All of the prices we display are set and matched by our Owners. (In this world of foreign currency, we do have to say 'subject to exchange rates' for some of our European places.)
What does ‘from price’ mean?
Our ‘from price’ is based on a four night stay in low season and designed to help you to compare different prices across our collection. Some of our Owners vary their nightly rates and check in days throughout the year, so it may differ from the rate quoted below the calendar. It is quite common (although by no means universal) for places to charge a little more in peak season or for shorter stays, to cover changeover costs. Consider booking longer stays during the cooler months if you’re looking for the lowest nightly rates.

The price charged in total for more than one Booking will always equal the prices charged separately for each individual Booking. All Bookings are available to be purchased separately at the same price as they are when more than one Booking is made. This means that any multiple Bookings do not constitute a package as defined in the Package Travel, Package Holidays and Package Tours Regulations 1992.

The Owner may charge the cancellation or amendment charges shown in their booking conditions (which may be as much as 100% of the cost of the Arrangements and will normally increase closer to the date of departure). The Owner may charge cancellation or amendment charges in accordance with its own booking conditions, however for the sake of convenience only, we have outlined the Owner’s charges at clause 2.3 and 2.4 below. Because the contract for your Booking is between you and the Owner, any queries or concerns should be addressed to them. In the event that you have any complaint about your stay, please notify the Owner as soon as possible.
