The Lodge - Lake District, Cumbria

Sleeps 4: 1 double bed, 1 double sofa bed. Kids and pets are welcome at The Lodge.

The Lodge sits alone in a clearing by a wide sweep of woodland on the banks of the River Eamont on the edge of the Lake District. While the simple log cabin fits perfectly with this isolated location and the feel inside is simple and homely, the interior is not without stylish, modern touches. From the upstairs master bedroom, with views that make the most of The Lodge's spot, the wrought-iron spiral staircase drops into the middle of the well-equipped open-plan kitchen and lounge. There are comfy armchairs facing the wood-burner, a double sofa bed and sliding doors which open onto the veranda to let in cool summer breezes and, occasionally, the sound of deer coming down to the river to drink.
The land of the Eden Hall estate offers plenty of scope for hiking and cycling in its woodlands as well as private stretches of the river which are fantastic for salmon fishing. There is also plenty to do at The Lodge itself. You can arrange a chef to come out and cook, a full hamper to be waiting for you or a masseuse to come and work out the day's hiking knots. The nearby Lake District, with a range of outdoor activities, also demands hearty exploration or, at the very least, idle contemplation.

Our guests say...

"We loved this place! Just to be completely secluded was something really special but to have the sound of the river, the beautiful scenery and the wildlife was amazing. The Lodge was so nice even the pictures don't prepare you for how good it is. Enjoyed our nights barbequeing and playing cards on the veranda - will definitely return"

"We went to The Lodge for our honeymoon, and loved it so much. There were so many best moments, from waking up in the attic bedroom and watching red squirrels from the bed, to dusk walks along the river and spotting a glimpse of otters. We enjoyed long lazy days sat on the veranda as the rain came down, we lit the stove at night and played scrabble in front of the fire."

"Lived up to my expectations and much much more. The personal touches, lovely homeliness of the lodge, trickling water of the river, tranquility and all out gorgeousness of the place gave us both a weekend to remember. I will recommend the lodge to everyone."

It was even more amazing in real life. Beautiful setting and the lodge itself had everything we could possibly need. On the last night, my boyfriend proposed to me on the veranda, so now it's even more special to me!"
