Sam, the shepherd's hut - The Old Forge, Dorset
Sleeps 2: 1 double bed. Children aged 8 or over are welcome at The Old Forge. Sorry, no pet are allowed.
It's cosy, it's comfy, it's not just for shepherds. Tim has been at it again. What will he do next? Well, he did mention some kind of underground dwelling when we last met... Anyway, Tim's latest project is a beautifully restored shepherd's hut. With its yesteryear charm it fits perfectly with the effortless style of The Old Forge. There's a wood-burner for chilly nights and vintage jars, tins and games fill the shelves. Lucy has made the patchwork curtains from a 1970s Laura Ashley dress collection and her breakfasts, also cut from a local cloth, are a joy too. Views out across the meadow and the orchard and the suave donkey 'Scrumpy Jack', that shares your private paddock, complete The Old Forge experience.
For families or friends on holiday together Rosie the Gypsy caravan can be booked too at a rate of £330 for a weekend and £150 a night on weekdays.

"We absolutely loved it. It was brilliant. We had a BBQ, played board games and had a night away from the hustle and bustle in a fabulous location. It rained over the course of the night, but that only made the stay more cosy as you could hear it fall on the metal above you.The breakfast in the morning was the cherry on the cake- delicious"

"It was very enjoyable. The hut itself was thoughtfully and beautifully kitted out with cakes, vintage tins and little curtains. I especially liked discovering the board games, tea and coffee and cups, and the inclusion of two wineglasses was most useful as I'd taken along a bottle of bubbly! We played scrabble until it was time for dinner, at a lovely nearby gastropub, and continued afterwards by candlelight. Even though it was February the woodburner kicked out masses of heat, and the whole experience was unbelievably romantic. The bed was the most comfortable I've ever slept in and I couldn't bear to get up in the morning, although the view and the breakfast that awaited us were so doubly lovely as to almost make it worth it"

“We had a great time! Lovely hut, really pretty and cosy, loved the Old Forge breakfast and the animals (especially Scrumpy Jack the donkey), Couple who own it were friendly but not intrusive. Best thing: Turning up and seeing the hut. Worst thing: Leaving!”
