A handmade natural bath bomb

How to make your own natural bath bombs

If there’s ever a season for self-care, it’s winter, and what better way to enjoy a little pampering, than a way that ‘warms you twice’. Or is that thrice? We’re releasing a collection of spaces perfect for some Wild Spa Weekends. But until you pick the perfect place for you, we thought we’d lend a helping hand to help get you started on your way to spa-like bliss – with a recipe to make your own bath bombs from scratch.

Using only natural ingredients, and a couple of mindful hours of your time, you can get creative and find your inner calm from the comfort of your bathtub – or even better – take one out glamping for an outdoor bath from heaven.

How to make them!

Equipment:

  • A Mixing bowl
  • A whisk (electric or manual)
  • Large-ish moulds

Ingredients:

  • 200g bicarbonate of soda
  • 100g citric acid
  • 50g cornflour
  • 50g Epsom salt (optional)
  • 4 tbsp coconut oil
  • 1/2 tsp essential oil
  • 1 tbsp turmeric
  • Ground orange peel and petals to decorate (optional)

Method

  1. Add the bicarbonate of soda, citric acid, cornflour and Epsom salt into a bowl and mix them all together.
  2. Pour the oils into a separate small bowl and mix them all together.
  3. Add the oil mixture slowly into the dry ingredients, a little bit at a time, whisking between each addition you make.
  4. Add a few tiny drops of water and then whisk again quickly, as it will start fizzing!
  5. The mixture should slightly clump together when pressed in your hand and keep its shape, but it shouldn’t be too wet.
  6. Add the ground orange peel and flower petals into the bottom of your mould, arranging as you hope to see them in your bath bombs!
  7. Pack half of the mixture tightly on top of the petals and peel, ensuring there’s no air pockets (that’ll create gaps in your bomb).
  8. Add turmeric to the second half of the mixture and mix well. Add on the top of the white mixture and press well.
  9. Leave your bath bomb in the mould to dry for four hours, then carefully remove it.
