Our most remote and completely off-grid cabins

Remove digital distractions and head out on a proper wellness escape. Our off-grid cabins offer the ultimate digital detox. No Wi-Fi, no signal, just you and the great outdoors. It might feel daunting at first, but once you're immersed in nature, away from the daily grind, you’ll feel your shoulders drop, your mind quieten and your happiness grow. Making time for these trips is good for the soul.

Here, you can focus entirely on the present. Whether that’s soaking in a wood-fired hot tub, exploring wild landscapes, or simply enjoying uninterrupted time with loved ones. Take a look at our most remote, off-grid cabins where your only urgent reminder is to enjoy the present.

Hinterlandes Cabin, Cumbria

So utterly remote, this cosy cabin on wheels moves regularly between several jaw-droppingly gorgeous spots in the secluded Lorton Valley. Don’t worry, full directions are provided before you set off! Sitting on the deck by the firepit in Cumbrian wilderness will make you feel like the only people on earth. Fire up the hot tub hidden amongst the trees and breathe in a deep lungful of fresh woodland air.

The Lake District is your back garden adventure playground, with endless hill trails, wild swimming in mountain streams and abundant wildlife. The owners’ vision was to leave no footprint on the land, and nomadic Hinterlandes achieves just that. It’s back to basics but with everything you need including a warm shower and a compost toilet.

Otby Lake Boat House, Lincolnshire

Perched on the edge of a six-acre, stream-fed lake, Otby Lake Boat House is the ultimate rural escape, where wild space stretches in every direction. Whether you’re floating across the water in your own private rowing boat or sweating out the stress in the wood-fired sauna, you’ll find plenty of ways to relax.

Inside, solar lighting and thick insulation make it both eco-friendly and toasty warm, and the lack of wifi ensures a truly off-grid experience. You’ll feel blissfully removed from daily distractions as you explore the Lincolnshire Wolds, cosy up with a book, stretch out on the yoga mats, or cast a line for trout in the lake (just remember to bring your gear). It’s nature therapy at its finest.

Cottage In The Clouds, Cumbria

Cottage in the Clouds is known as one of the most remote homes in England, so if splendid isolation tops your wish list, you’ve found it slap bang in the middle of the Lake District National Park. Stock up on provisions before you arrive and get ready to step back in time for a few blissful days off-grid without mains electricity or plumbing. Instead you’ll find a wood burner, copper kettle, tin bath, charming antique water jugs, and low beams in an old stone cottage that has been lovingly restored by Grizedale Arts and the National Trust.

What you might lack in hotel-style luxuries, you more than gain in staggering views of the surrounding hills. Walk for miles from the front door through protected woodlands, past rivers and mountain lakes or take the kayak out for a few laps of nearby Coniston Water.

The Withywindle, Devon

The owners of The Withywindle are living the rural dream after fleeing busy city streets for the Devon countryside. Feel inspired by the simple life during your stay, in this stunning off-grid cabin hidden in a meadow, surrounded by trees. Clad in a mixture of beautiful cedar shingle and rusty tin, The Withywindle has been cleverly designed to change colour and blend into the natural setting as it ages.

With a huge Swedish bath steaming on the deck, a double hammock and an outdoor pizza oven, you’ve got everything you need for deep relaxation and there’s no one around to disturb the peace. The playful design features will put a smile on your face, especially the three quirky little windows by the sleeping area, each with a different style of shutter to block the light out. Stargazing by the fire pit with a local cider at night will reset your system to seriously mellow.

The Heron, Colber Farm, Dorset

Bring the kids to this ‘tiny barn’ in Dorset and let them burn off some energy running riot in the fun hayloft. Unplug your devices and settle in for some quality time reconnecting with nature on a 240-acre working dairy farm. The ten-minute walk from the car park to the cabin gets you in the mood for seclusion, but you can borrow a wheelbarrow or grab a lift if there’s too much to carry.

The beautiful River Stour runs through the farm where you can try your hand at fishing and kayaking, or you can access local footpaths with a 10-minute stroll. With exciting ‘real life’ activities like hot air ballooning, quad biking and archery on the doorstep there’s no time to look at your phone anyway.

The Lake, Cornwall

Hidden deep in the rugged expanse of Bodmin Moor, The Lake is a haven of solitude. Your off-grid retreat is a transformed shipping container, its minimalist design framing an ever-changing view of the flooded quarry below.

Owners Rupert and Fran welcome you on arrival, but once they leave, it’s just you, the lake, and the wilderness. Use the rod provided for fishing off the pier, or wild swim in the lake before warming up in the gas-powered outdoor shower. Even the fridge is wild, a simple crate submerged in the cool shallows, keeping your drinks perfectly chilled for a sundowner. As night falls, the magic of Bodmin’s Dark Sky status takes over, and the heavens explode with stars.

Big Sky Retreat, Devon

Between Dartmoor and Exmoor, this handcrafted wooden yurt is a peaceful off-grid escape with breathtaking 180-degree views. Inspired by the legendary Bill Coperthwaite and his ethos of simple living, owners Alison and Scott built it entirely from recycled and natural materials. Inside, handmade furniture, thick rugs and an enclosed king-sized bed create a warm retreat, while a gas hob and hot shower add simple comforts.

Outside, swing lazily in the trampoline swing, cook in the outdoor kitchen or cosy up around the fire bowl. Wander through wildflower meadows buzzing with butterflies or hike the Two Moors Way. For adventure, head to Dartmoor for climbing or kayak the Exe. But with sunsets over rolling hills and a pizza oven at your doorstep, you may never want to leave.

The Bivvy, Shropshire

Simplicity itself in the quiet Shropshire countryside, The Bivvy is a lovingly handcrafted cabin filled with creativity. Built from salvaged materials found on the family farm, it’s a space that invites you to slow down and reconnect with nature. Entertainment is delightfully analogue – a deck of cards, a guitar, books, and a football to kick about.

With the famous Bringewood biking trails close by, the River Wye for canoeing, and Mortimer’s Forest offering long, meditative walks, there’s plenty to explore. But you may find that the stillness of The Bivvy is the biggest draw. Split some logs, stoke the fire, and let the peaceful countryside do its thing.
