Cabins for watching cosy autumn films

Grab blankets and popcorn, dim the lights and cuddle up for an autumn movie night in one of our remote, cosy cabins. With glimpses of vibrant reds and oranges through the window, the wood burner crackling and lanterns twinkling inside, it’s time to switch off and unwind. If you want your viewing to mirror the scenery, try When Harry Met Sally, Good Hill Hunting, Hocus Pocus or Knives Out – for pumpkins and fall leaves in technicolour glory. You won’t just find TV screens in our unique cabins, there are projectors, outdoor cinemas, popcorn machines and even the chance to watch your favourite film from a warm tub.

Hidey Hole Cabin

Explore the 720-acre site of Bewl Water reservoir by day then when night falls, press a button to transform the huge picture window at the foot of the king-size bed into a movie screen. Using Google Chromecast, you can stream your favourite autumn movie from your laptop or mobile but before you press play, make sure you’ve whipped up a fresh batch of popcorn in the vintage machine using the kernels provided. In between film premieres at Hidey Hole Cabin, watch the wildlife from the canopied deck, amble into Ticehurst Village to browse in the artisan shops or visit one of the world’s finest conifer collections at Bedgebury Pinetum. Scamper back through piles of russet-coloured leaves at the end of each day for a BBQ under the stars before your next cinematic adventure.

Vilberie

Vilberie in Somerset takes relaxation seriously. In a separate circular room that feels like a shrine to bathing, you’ll find a massive granite bath — big enough for two — with a rainfall shower above. In this luxurious space there’s underfloor heating, Bluetooth speakers and most importantly a movie screen where you can watch much-loved classics. Autumn is the season to rewatch those familiar favourites that make you smile. When you’re not languishing in the tub with the remote control, head out in the low afternoon sun to soak up the mellow natural beauty on walks through the arboretum or in the Mendip Hills. Head home to whip up a hearty feast in the covered outdoor kitchen on the Weber BBQ or gas pizza oven. If you don’t feel like cooking, head to the welcoming glow of The Pheasant Inn or award-winning Sheppy pub.

The Rook’s Nook

The Rook’s Nook in Herefordshire isn't quite a cabin (but almost is, and deserves a spot here) takes secret cinema to another level. Here you can recline in the sheltered outdoor hot tub and watch a feel-good film from the warmth of the bubbles. With steam rising into the night air, the mellow glow of fairy lights all around and a glass of fizz in hand, there’s never been a better time to put on a rom-com. The next day you can act out your own movie montage on a walk through the acres of woodland on the doorstep. Crunch through piles of autumn leaves, smell the ripe earth and admire the tranquil surroundings that have been lovingly brought back to life by owners Heather and Dale. Back at the cabin, hunker down in the cosy casbah-inspired interior, fire up the wood burner and watch the changing colours of the seasons through the big windows.

Cosy Cowshed

If the cows could see the luxurious finish of their former shed now, they’d be clamouring to moo-ve back in. Against a cinematic backdrop of golden-hued autumn leaves, you’ll discover an achingly-stylish sanctuary with an outdoor Hikki hot tub, a claw-foot bath and a wood-fired pizza oven. On chilly evenings, after a day exploring the coast and countryside, grab some popcorn, hop into the sumptuous super king-size bed and settle in for a movie marathon on the slide-down projector. Make it a Disney film if you’ve brought the kids (there are also two single beds under a magical canopy) or perhaps just enjoy the chance to spread out in palatial comfort by yourselves. During the day, take in the spectacular views from the Cosy Cowshed’s deck over the UNESCO North Devon Biosphere, go for endless hikes from the doorstep or visit some of Devon and Cornwall’s finest beaches.
