Where the team would celebrate their birthday

We love a birthday at Canopy & Stars so woe betide any team member who tries to sneak their special day under the radar. We’ll find them and foist cake, cards and an embarrassing rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’ on them. We’re almost certain they secretly love it. Equally high on the list of things we love are: glamping weekends in the great outdoors. Particularly when there’s something to celebrate. To inspire you for your next trip around the sun, we asked a few team members to tell us their dream location for celebrating a birthday. If you’re hoping someone will organise a surprise trip for you, just forward this list on to them.

Box Barn – Emily, Head of PR

Emily is heading to Box Barn in Monmouthshire for her husband’s next birthday as part of a lively group of four families. She says: “We’ve chosen it as it’s a really sociable space that sleeps 18. The eight kids can run feral and there’s loads for the adults to do too with a hot tub, plunge barrel, bar and pizza oven.” With its huge communal barn, the camp is ideally set up for relaxed, celebratory feasting. While the adults whip up delicious meals, the kids can entertain themselves with table tennis, badminton, boules and jamming sessions on the guitars and ukulele.

Nantseren – Tessa, Sustainability & Impact Manager

Tessa would choose the wild camp of Nantseren in Carmarthenshire for her birthday celebrations. It’s a magical place where 16 people can sleep in bell tents under the stars and compete over pool and table tennis. Tessa says: “I love the idea of late-night dancing in the barn, sports day games in the huge field and bracing hikes in the Brecon Beacons.” There’s also wild swimming in plunge pools in the hills and a private hot tub that Tessa would surely get first dibs on as the birthday girl.

Tiny Home Borders – Isobel, Digital Coordinator

Isobel would take her partner to cosy Tiny Home Borders in Scotland, a gorgeous cabin that comes with its very own private lochan (aka a small loch). Isobel is one of those lucky souls with a summer birthday, so she has visions of splashing around in the sunshine and having a go on the paddle boards. She says: “I love the idea of a bit of pampering surrounded by beautiful Scottish scenery. I’d like to sip cocktails – ideally a mojito – in the outdoor bath and cook up homemade pizzas on the deck for a birthday dinner”.

Pomeroy Treehouse – Jem, Junior Copywriter

Jem is an old hand at celebrating his birthday in incredible Canopy & Stars glamping spaces. After marking his 30th at The Carn, he’s already looking forward to his next celebration at Pomeroy Treehouse in Somerset. Jem says: “I’ve chosen Pomeroy because it has so many incredible features, it’s like a treetop spa! There’s also interesting places to explore nearby and bikes you can rent from the owners”. He’s got great taste, watch this space to see where he ends up for next year’s celebrations.

Secret Meadow – Tommy, Account Manager

Tommy likes the idea of a big family get-together at Secret Meadows in Suffolk for his birthday. It’s an award-winning glamping experience run by Sinfield Nature Conservation Trust and all bookings support their great work. Round up a big gaggle of revellers for a weekend of celebrations where you’ll stay in safari tents, gypsy caravans and a horse box. There’s never a dull moment on the site – your group can meet and feed the animals, head out for nature walks, explore the turf labyrinth and book massages through a visiting spa company. What appeals most to Tommy? “The goat walks of course!”

Halzephron Observatory – Helen, Business Development Manager

Helen would head to Halzephron Observatory in Cornwall for a relaxing birthday weekend accompanied by beloved dog, Odin. She says “my birthday is in January and normally the weather is miserable so I always look for places near a beach, as it’s the best kind of walk to do in the cold and rain – normally you catch little glimpses of the sun”. At Halzephron you don’t even need to leave the cabin to get epic sea views, you can see the waves from the lounge and the king size bed. By night you can stargaze through the telescope. Helen wants to settle into a “nice cosy spot by the wood burner, read a book and cook a good meal”.

Inshriach Loghouse – Hattie, Marketing Executive

Hattie has been dreaming of a getaway to Inshriach Loghouse in the Highlands of Scotland ever since she joined the team. She says “I love how wild and back to basics it is, allowing time to properly disconnect from daily life. Now that we have a pup, the fact that it is dog-friendly is a huge draw and we’d be able to explore all the stunning hiking routes nearby.” For a memorable birthday feast, Hattie can stock up on supplies at The Old School Shop at Inverdruie which sells meat from the Rothiemurchus Estate as well as wine, and local cheese and deli goodies.

Silva Treehouse – Kelly, Revenue & Performance Manager

Kelly wants to party at Silva Treehouse, one of our most popular glamping spaces tucked away in Lake District wilderness near the river Eden. Her and a group of close friends can revert back to childhood (but with a dash of something alcoholic) as they whizz down the slide to the outdoor bar for birthday cocktails and drinking games. She says “we’d make an amazing BBQ dinner, wrap up in front of the fire, have a lot of laughs and enjoy the breathtaking views from the hot tub”. To shake off the cobwebs, Kelly and her mates can hike for miles to sandstone caves, waterfalls and spectacular mountain viewpoints.
